Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Sep 23, 2011 6:19 pm I know these systems aren't ideal, but it's what my builder offers and I don't known if I can afford to get it done afterwards with everything else we need to buy.. So my question: Our builder offers 2 packages. One is a four pack, that has a max of 8 data and 8 phone, the other an 8 pack with a max of 16 phone and 16 data. With Starserve, can these points both be used as data? Is there a difference between the two? Basically I'm just getting one point each in 5 rooms, so 5 data plus 2 phone. If i get the four pack and I wanted to add more than 3 data points later on am I going to have to get a whole new enclosure? We are only building a small 3 bedroom house, with a living room plus theatre room, am I better off getting the 8 pack or is the 4 pack enough? Any advice will be greatly appreciated, these starserve things confuse me! Re: Starserve Question 2Sep 23, 2011 6:39 pm We just had our sparky pre-wire our new build. Had to get the builder to allow them onsite. They can't finish until you get handover, then pull the wires through and finish. We had outdoor speaker cable, theatre cables and 4 network points to the theatre and 2 network points to each room that we chose. Laptops and phones we use on wireless, but if you connect a DVD player and say a media device....there's 2 points. Theatre we should have put in 6 or 8. Just had a quick look at the starserve PDF and can't really see much that it can do unless your builder doesn't include any phone, data or video as standard. Buy a networked WDTVLive media centre and you can access video and stream to any of your networked TV's, PC's etc This way you will need a network switch also which are very cheap, but basically what all your data cables feed in to. Phones are all generally portable now and you can get multiple handsets, so 1 or 2 points max. We actually don't have a home phone and just call via skype if we want to dial from a landline due to mobile coverage issues. I wouldn't mind seeing the costs on the Starserve. You can really use anything you want the main consideration would be how it looks once painted/finished - or the look you want. Cabinetmakers use MDF because its cheap… 2 10091 I would say both styles you have pictured are steel. The lower chord of the first pic would be a massive lump if made using timber considering the size of the rafters. If… 1 6252 1 13222 |
