Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Sep 17, 2011 10:17 am We are debating to keep an old Onkyo Reciever because we are not sure weather it will serve the its new purpose. We originally bought it for music purposes only. Plugged into a cd/radio player that had needed only 2 floor speakers, a sub woofer and 2 outdoor speakers. The new home arrangement is 4 pairs of speakers throughout the house (already pre wired and 1 room having a pre wired volume control) + the 2 floor speakers and subwoofer. We have already have a speaker switch box but I'm unsure weather or not to get a new switch box to accommodate all the speakers, will I need one or will this do. Here is the back of the Reciever Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Back of Switch box. I'm not sure why the last 2 points on the switch has a plug-type end) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We want to use this for music (radio playing usually all day on weekends) and DVD. We have an TV point here too but only want to use the ceiling and floor speakers in that room for TV and DVD mode. Can this be done with what I have or will I need to add or change it all together. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All new built homes look like display homes... until the furniture goes in. Re: Do I need a new Reciever or switch box... or both? 2Sep 20, 2011 7:05 am hmmm So any suggestions/advise on what type to get if I were to but a new reciever. We want one that allows us to dedicate rooms, not just music in every room all the time. Also an ipod outlet would be great. Any brand advise would also be really good. Onkyo has been really good, but there would be better brands out here that I am probably unaware of. Thanks __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All new built homes look like display homes... until the furniture goes in. Re: Do I need a new Reciever or switch box... or both? 3Sep 20, 2011 9:02 am Hmm… my suggestion would be to get another receiver. It will give you more flexibility and an iPod connection. If you are happy with Onkyo, I say stick with it. You can still use your old receiver plugged into 2 sets of speakers and the new one can be plugged into the other 2 set of speakers. If you are listening to radio, then you can tune them both into the same station and get radio throughout the house. Alternatively, you can play dedicated CD/DVD/iPod to each of the receivers. Re: Do I need a new Reciever or switch box... or both? 4Sep 20, 2011 12:57 pm Thanks rlay1, Good idea, we can connect 2 receivers and keep 1 in the room for TV and the other to other rooms and just tune in both to the radio so its throughout the house. Didnt think of using 2 recivers, great idea!
