Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Aug 27, 2011 6:49 pm Hey has anyone had experience with these http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/290506185052?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Our theatre room will be a multi purpose space and it would be nice to hide it away when not in use. Any thoughs????? Re: motorized ceiling projector mounts 4Aug 29, 2011 11:35 am $890 is a lot less than the >$5K price of a Screen Technics one! I have installed a few of the Screen Technics ones (back when they were $3000) - even one for myself. They work really well and the overall look and efect is ever bit as good as you think it is but for $3000 (now much more again) I usually recommend for most people it's quite hard to justify the $$. Plus, if you install one you are then stuck in the position of limiting your choices for new projectors when you want to upgrade (given they will all have different projection ranges for the screen size you will have). So for the sake of keeping your options for future projectors open and saving heaps of dough it is hard to argue against a simple ceiling bracket. If, however, you can accept these two big decision factors, the ceiling lift is quite an impressive thing to have in your fully automated or dual purpose room... And regarding being dust-proof - the box that is hiden up inside the ceiling tends to be completely closed (perhaps except for cable holes) - in the good units anyway. Given its price would you say the ones on ebay wouldnt be up to the task? As for dust I would be installing this as part of a new extension so i will be very flexible about position and making sure the housing is sealed on top etc. Re: motorized ceiling projector mounts 7Aug 31, 2011 8:37 am sceen7 Given its price would you say the ones on ebay wouldnt be up to the task? I have 0 (zero) experience with that one on eBay so I can't comment on its quality or suitability. I can say that at >$5K the Screen Technics ones are actually quite over-priced (honestly they probably were at $3000) as I certainly know what made them tick (and to be fair probably worth every bit of, say, $2000) so can see how such devices could be produced and sold for less, but, to return to the Screen Technics ones they were made very well - very solid and very good quality mechanism etc., so the unanswered question really is how much less has been put into the cheaper ones???? Also - MAKE SURE your intended projector will fit inside the lift. When Screen Technics first offered lifts 4 years ago you could not fit one of the large flagship projectors (today's example = something like the JVC X3 which is a pretty damned big projector...) in it. Now they offer them in more than one size to accomodate more of the bigger ones. Re: motorized ceiling projector mounts 8Aug 31, 2011 7:42 pm Thanks for the tips rodda. The ebay ones offer a showroom for inspection so i will go and check them out before i commit. I am leaning towards building an angled recess for it and getting the plasterers to fit it off that way I wont regret a ** lifter in the future. What we have done in a few theatres ( including my own) is run 2 layers of 13mm gyprock, but sounds insulation especially for the bass is really tricky as a lot of that… 4 2577 How do you remove one of these ceiling air con vents? And is it possible to disconnect the duct joined to the vent from inside the house, without going into the roof cavity? 0 5947 There is water getting into the ceiling, I expected to find some holes in the corrugated roof but there weren't any so I suspect that the roof drip edge is letting water… 0 2454 |
