Then after handover my friend will come and hook everything up to hub and plates, speakers etc which he will provide at our cost. Also how approx how much would the cost be for all these items??? He has told me about $4500 for everything including an AMP, cables, wires, face plates, hills hub, speakers (for patios and 5.1), etc does this sound about right?? I hope this makes sense Thanks in advance for your help. ***Building coral HERON (modified) in the beautiful NSW far north coast*** H1 Thread - https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=48902 Re: Pre wiring, smart wiring question??? 2Aug 14, 2011 11:46 am Hi, The first comment I would make is to put in more points. Cable is pretty cheap and running it before the plasterboard is up is much cheaper than after. My rule of thumb is anywhere where you want a data point, put two. Anywhere where you want 2 data points, put 4. If you supply four boxes of network cable, the electrician can pull 4 runs at a time with little change in labour costs. The second point is, don't distinguish between network points and phone points. The advantage of this type of cabling (It is called structured cabling) is that you can connect the required service at the hub with a short "patch" cable. You have your phone sockets in the hub along with your network router. If you want an outlet to be a phone socket, you "patch" a phone socket to the outlet at the hub. If you want it to be a network socket, you change the patch so that it connects to the network router. If you are going to have ADSL as your broadband, make sure your friend installs a central splitter, so you don't need splitters at each phone point. If you are in a Foxtel satellite area, make sure two coaxial cables are installed at each point, as the new HD boxes require two connections. Paul Re: Pre wiring, smart wiring question??? 3Aug 22, 2011 11:05 pm Hello, this sounds to cheap to me... does this include ALL the modules to go into the hub?? such as modulators sound distribution telephone distribution infa red splitters/combiners network switches etc etc you can do a much better system and better suited to your requirements, if you go a custom route.. i would be asking all of this before handing over cash, i would also do as suggested earlier... ALWAYS run more cables than needed.. technology is getting WAY ahead of common wiring practises... i.e. a few months ago we never had to wire data points behind televisions.. now its common place... .. its much easier to run wires now than later... and cheaper also be aware that hills DONT support high definition distribution... hope this helped chris Electrical - Automation - Smart wiring - New homes - Commercial - Data cabling] 1300 050 315 www.cenemelectrical.com.au www.facebook.com/cenemelectrical We already paid for somfy motors for the blinds.
