Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Jul 31, 2011 8:31 pm Hi Guys, I am planning to setup my home theater room. To start with I have got a 5.1 home theater in box, I plan to upgrade it at a later stage. I want to run speaker cable from one wall to celling and then get it down on the opposite wall. I already have all the conduits in place hence I dont need to mess with the wall. I am bit confused as to which audio cable to use. Because the cable will be going through celling which also have mains cables. Do I need to buy a fire proof audio cable (CL2 rated) same like mains cable. My main concern is from the insurance point of view. Has any one done similar thing, could you please share your views on this one pls. Thanks Tama Re: need advice on running speaker cable wall - celling - wa 2Jul 31, 2011 9:49 pm Yes you do need a cable rated for in wall use. There are plenty of opinions on speaker cable and what works best. I've tried a few different cables and the main differance in quality was with the dirt cheap cable and poor connections. I use 12AWG wire and gold plated banana plugs from selbys. Re: need advice on running speaker cable wall - celling - wa 4Aug 01, 2011 10:03 pm Cheers Guys, Thanks for sharing the information. I need to run roughly 12 meters for one speaker, what thickness is recommended. I did a quick search for different brands Selby seems to be decently priced. How are these cables , I have never used them before. Thanks Re: need advice on running speaker cable wall - celling - wa 5Aug 04, 2011 5:49 pm hi tamamontu, For that distance a 16AWG cable would be more than sufficient. There is some really well priced by the metre 16 AWG available but it is best to look at 25 - 50 metre reels if you can use the extra...
