But if someone knows a better or easer way let me no. Re: mounting a 55inch plasma to a wall with metal studs 3Jun 24, 2011 6:02 am Hi, That is my plan too, but I will send a quick email to the company that is supplying my house (It is a kit) and see what they recommend. Paul Re: mounting a 55inch plasma to a wall with metal studs 4Jun 24, 2011 9:29 am Hi, The answer from my kit company is that you can
The other potential issue with the third option is that the studs may not be where you need/want them. If your Gyprock is already up and the studs are not in the right place then you can either attach timber to the metal studs and then attach the bracket to that or cut the Gyprock away to install timber inside the wall and then repair the Gyprock - A handyman can do this for a couple of hundred dollars at most if you can't DIY. Paul Re: mounting a 55inch plasma to a wall with metal studs 5Jun 24, 2011 4:10 pm Hi mate. I recently mounted a 58" plasma - with a standard un-branded bracket - to a completed steel-framed house (well actually to an interior wall of a completed steel-framed house ). Despite the fact that I was concerned about how thin the steel actually was, as long as you use enough of the right type of screws (I used a special type that drill their own hole then cut themselves their own thread as they pull themselves in - make sure they are made of a strong metal) and get at least 2 studs you'll be fine (try to get 3 screws per stud - this might require adding some holes in the back plate of the bracket yourself). Re: mounting a 55inch plasma to a wall with metal studs 6Jul 23, 2011 5:13 pm Spot on Rod! As long as you use a good sized Self Tapping metal screw with a large head you will be fine. The shear weight of a metal stud is the same (if not better) than the equivalent in a timber stud. Re: mounting a 55inch plasma to a wall with metal studs 7Nov 05, 2011 7:33 pm hi all, I have a question as well - my apology if this is not appropriate on this thread. we're thinking of mounting our 60" plasma tv on the wall which weight more than 50 kilos, i'm a bit worried if the timber can actually handle this. I'm not sure of the thickness of the timber but this is the usual timber that the builder uses in house construction. thanks very much. I understand that all of the suggestions about adding extra reinforcement do provide more piece-of-mind, but don't think that it's necessary and that your big TV will fall off the wall if you don't go to those extra lengths... Re: mounting a 55inch plasma to a wall with metal studs 10Nov 25, 2011 9:26 pm After speaking to my builder he has suggested putting in the timber. He explained that the problem with the steel frame is that you only have a millimetre or so of steel for the screw to bite into. The problem with that is it is very easy for the screw to strip the steel - he has already had that happen when screwing into the frame for the ceiling battens. So, for a few dollars worth of timber I think I will do it. If it was wooden studs I wouldn't have any worries, because even with relatively small screws you have a good couple of centimetres of screw in the timber. Paul Update from me! Couldn't find the trimmer - not sure if there isn't one simply because the eave is so narrow. Went ahead with the spring toggles and it all worked out… 7 5877 Fine with me... just let 'em step in with some affordable (but good) gear... 12 5497 Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that. Have a good day 4 5196 |
