Question for a data guru please.
We are about to move into a Telstra Smart estate.
At our electrical appointment we were informed that a Home Dist Unit would be required and our services (TV, Tel, Net etc) would not be operational with out it ~ so let's add $1800 onto the bill.
A "CLIPSAL STARSERVE - Developer Pack" ($400) has been installed & only appears to be a dist unit for TV & Tel.
From my research, it appears that services are all available directly from the Telstra installed ONT & a HDU really is only an expensive upsell.
Are my findings correct?
Planned setup:
I receive a 4 port router supplied by T plugged into Cat6 from ONT, add an 8+ port switch & have a 11+ port network.
Plug my Siemens cordless Tel into phone cable from ONT & have a 2 line (PSTN & VOIP) multi-handset phone set-up.
Currently only use 1 TV outlet - if we need more in the future just drop into local shop & buy a Video dist hub ($100?) & drop video cable down wall cavity.
Thanks
