Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Jun 03, 2011 8:36 pm Hi all, I need help with my Home Theatre setup. I have two options from two separate retailers which follow and need suggestions on which is better. My room size is 3.7mx3.9m. Ceiling is 2.6m high. Option 1: Projector - Mitsubishi HC4000 5.1 speaker system - Morel Soundspot SP-2 satellite speakers and Soundsub PSW8 subwoofer. Amplifier (choice of either) - Denon AVR1911 or Pioneer VSX1020 Option 2: Projector - Sharp XVZ15000 5.1 speaker system - Boston Acoustics theatre satellite speakers and 150watt RMS Boston Acoustics subwoofer Amplifier - Pioneer VSX1020 Thanks guys. Re: Help on Home Theatre system 2Jun 03, 2011 11:54 pm We have bought the Mitsubishi HC 4000 projector but are yet to try it out. So interested to see what other people think. Forrester 43sq We have our keys (3/6/11) Now it's time to decorate (that's the fun part.lol) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=37598 Re: Help on Home Theatre system 4Jun 07, 2011 9:39 am Hi I'm afraid I can't offer much specific advice on the particular items, just general advice and my opinion (Which are like bottoms - everyone has one and they are full of poo - I cleaned that up a bit and now it just sounds silly ) On the receivers, I have two Denon receivers and have been very happy with them - better than the Sonys that I had before. They seem to have a pretty good reputation generally, but so does Pioneer. On the projector, from online reviews it seems that they are pretty close. The Sharp is supposed to have better blacks, but unless you had them projecting side by side you probably wouldn't notice. Now, for the opinion bit, speakers. First, I have to say I am not a fan of the small satellite style speakers in either of your selections. I understand the desire for speakers to be less conspicuous, and you can probably get away with it in the surrounds, but your fronts/centre do most of the work. In my last theatre I used Krix ceiling mounted surround speakers and floor standing fronts. In my new house I will use the ceiling surrounds again, but I am keen to listen to their new wall mounted Tryptix speakers to use as front/centre. Good speakers are probably one of the best investments you can make - Projectors will get cheaper and better every few years, receivers will come out with new features (HDBaseT, new surround, whatever the industry has on the drawing board), but I still have the first pair of 'decent' speakers I bought when I was 18 - A pair of Mordaunt-Short bookshelfs now doing duty on the mini system in my daughter's bedroom. You really need to go to a retailer that has a listening room set up with all of their speakers and a switch. Get them to connect the receiver you are going to buy, take in a movie or a CD that you are familiar with and spend some time listening to the different options. Choose the ones that sound best for your budget. They will sound a bit different in your room, but at least you have auditioned them on a level playing field. Paul Re: Help on Home Theatre system 6Jun 07, 2011 12:24 pm Thanks Paul for your advice. The bottom line is (pun intended) it would be difficult to compare the two speakers as they are in different retail shops. I'll try and take a cd/dvd and test the sounds as you suggested. I was also a little concerned about the Morel vs Boston speakers. The Morel's range in the $thousands where as the Bostons are under $1k. I couldn't find many reviews on Morel on the net. The retailer told me the reason why they are so expensive is because there is a middle-man who imports them into Aus whereas the Bostons are sourced direct from the manufacturer. With the Sharp vs Mitsubishi I am leaning toward the Sharp (sorry Rudolf1980). I've had a look at the specs and there isn't much of a difference between them. But the better blacks and higher contrast ratio is pushing me toward the Sharp. Thanks for your advice on the above though. I appreciate it. Bill.
