Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 May 07, 2011 4:28 pm Looking at some HT setups and wondering the ideal position both in terms of image quality and safety for a projector. the 2 options I have seen are: 1. Bulkhead at 1 head of the room. have projector sitting inside bulhead with powerpoint there. A small window is cut off on the side facing the screen. A small latch door is made on the bottom side of the bulkhead to enable placement and servicing of projector. 2. Ceiling mounted projector with powerpoint next to it. Re: Projector in Bulkhead or Ceiling Mount 2May 08, 2011 10:11 pm I can't make a comment regarding image quality but I have found that projectors with a noisy fan are a problem when ceiling mounted. Ceiling bracket is WAY cheaper option, plus different projectors are different sizes, have different positions for their lenses and can vary greatly with their 'throw' distance. If you ever want to upgrade your projector in the future it is very possible that the new one will not work in the old one's cubby hole... Re: Projector in Bulkhead or Ceiling Mount 7May 16, 2011 5:04 pm I have just installed my old Mitsubishi HC900 projector on a ceiling mount bracket literally right above where i'll be sitting on a raised platform. Even though the projector is quite noisey (compared to newer DLPs) with a Audible Noise level of 35 dB, once your movie/game is going, you hardly notice it at all. I thought it was going to be a real issue the first time I fired it up, but after 10 minutes, I forgot all about it. Re: Projector in Bulkhead or Ceiling Mount 8May 18, 2011 9:44 pm Both ways are good, however like Rod, I have experienced both a hidden solution and an open installation and I personally, for ease of tweaking, changing and upgrading would recommend a simple mounted to the ceiling installation.
