Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Mar 25, 2011 9:33 pm Where do the powerpoints around built in tv units normally go? Above the tv unit or inside below the tv unit top. I've always though that the best spot for them is to be hidden inside the built in tv unit BUT this means that the top would have to have cut outs for the cable to go through. What if I decide to not have a tv there? And then there will be visible holes left. What do you think? Powepoints above the built in tv unit or inside Re: Built in tv units & Powerpoints 2Mar 26, 2011 3:51 pm That would depend on the design of the TV unit, surely? Buffet-style, full-height unit with compartments, with or without doors.... What are you having built? Re: Built in tv units & Powerpoints 3Mar 26, 2011 4:01 pm Not sure what they are called but those low ones, wall hung ones. With doors. Re: Built in tv units & Powerpoints 4Mar 26, 2011 5:02 pm Assuming the TV will sit on top, you could have a power point on the wall, which wouldn't be seen with the TV in place (but which would be easy to reach if you needed to unplug it for any reason). If you're having a DVD player etc inside the unit, you'd need another power point in there. No need for cutting holes anywhere. If all the components are to sit on top of the unit though, it might be tidier to have leads running down through the top of the unit to a concealed power point. No messy cords everywhere.... Re: Built in tv units & Powerpoints 6Mar 28, 2011 7:05 am Even of the DVD player etc are inside the cupboard they still need to be hooked up to the tv, right? So the concealed solution is the only solution, right? Re: Built in tv units & Powerpoints 7Mar 28, 2011 10:15 am concealed ftw... then just use an IR Extender kit to control everything Kodiak Data Cabling onFaceBook Consult*, Design and Installation Data, TV, Home Theatre/ AV Cabling, Multi Room Audio, IP CCTV and Door Intercoms Ask for a Quote. *DIY DATA Cabling Is Ilegal Re: Built in tv units & Powerpoints 8Mar 28, 2011 11:16 am Even with non-fixed TV units and standard height power points, I tend to run a power-board from the powerpoint through the cable hole in the back and leave the board INSIDE the TV unit, behind the players and consoles etc. This way all the power cables can be tidied inside the TV unit out of sight, and only the TV conecntions run outside. It also generally means that non-fixed tv units can be pushed alot closer to the wall.
