Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation Re: How many people in here have separate "Cinema Rooms" 21Mar 24, 2011 3:56 pm We have a dedicated theatre room, with a fixed 110" screen, projector and Bose sound system. We also have it set up to be able to watch TV through the projector, but only because we want to be able to watch the footy in there! It's everyones favourite room, a huge hit with guests or the kids have friends over! Re: How many people in here have separate "Cinema Rooms" 22Mar 24, 2011 4:10 pm KristE We painted ours purple and black. Sounds strange I know but it looks fantastic! Not strange at all. Ours is purple too, even the ceiling! Re: How many people in here have separate "Cinema Rooms" 23Mar 24, 2011 4:14 pm fairy blue KristE We painted ours purple and black. Sounds strange I know but it looks fantastic! Not strange at all. Ours is purple too, even the ceiling! Ours is purple as well! Dulux Fanfare... Hooray for purple home theatre rooms! Initially it was painted Taubmans Fanfair which was NOT the desired colour at all... We didnt think that Fairy floss pink was particularly conducive to the home cinema experience Re: How many people in here have separate "Cinema Rooms" 24Mar 24, 2011 4:46 pm No cinema room, we put in a rumpus room instead with pool/air hockey table, large tv (dh toy) which has been wired up to surround sound system. We wanted a entertaining room instead of just a cinema room. Cheers Lou http://take2-customdesigndownslope.blogspot.com 07-10-09 omg they have cut the block 14-05-10 we finally have the keys Re: How many people in here have separate "Cinema Rooms" 25Mar 24, 2011 5:13 pm I'm nearing the 2nd year of building my dedicated cinema room. It's a full Art Deco design in the vein of the "Astor" and "Sun" cinemas in Melbourne. It was a VERY tough task finding the right 1930's decor. So 90% of the cinema is custom made. All the Art Deco lighting, seating, carpet and fittings are all one off designs. I had to travel OS a couple of times to make sure the seats and lights were being made to my spec. The ceiling has a 3000+ star scape that's computer controled with twinkling and shooting stars. There won't be a TV tuner in the room. We are just movie nuts. It has been a LONG road but i hope to have it finished within the next 2 months or so. I didnt expect that so many people would have a separate cinema room! Yes we are watching also movies, but we are ok siting in the living room (in the open space with kitchen) and watch our movies there We are in the process of sketching our new home, and we have a basement room, where it would be either a gym/ play room/ etc etc So it could also end up being a cinema room i suppose! Re: How many people in here have separate "Cinema Rooms" 27Mar 25, 2011 10:13 am In our last home we did In our new home we do not ... but I am building an outdoor cinema in this one Re: How many people in here have separate "Cinema Rooms" 28Mar 25, 2011 1:53 pm Our new place has a "Home Theatre", which is additional to the usual "family room". We're not going the whole "cinema" experience though, it'll essentially just be a dedicated TV room with surround-sound-in-a-box and some comfy chairs. A vast majority of designs we looked at seem to now include a Home Theatre room which is quite good I think...alot of people like to have a seperate getaway room. I didnt expect that so many people would have a separate cinema room! Yes but where and how you have asked the question has skewed the answers - by that I mean people frequenting the "Home Theatre and Automation" section are more likely to be interested in haveing a separate home theatre and therefore to answer "yes" to your question - had you asked, say, in the Garden section " Would you prefer garden space or an extra room as a home theatre?" you would probably have had different proportion of replies. Does that make sense to anyone other than me??? Re: How many people in here have separate "Cinema Rooms" 30Mar 25, 2011 6:56 pm yep Helyn that makes sense to me! I saw this thread and don't have a home theatre so didn't bother to reply! But as this may have skewed the results I will reply now and say "no" we don't have a dedicated theatre room. we have a rumpus room which we may decide to turn into a media room later on when the kids are older, but it does have a big window and sliding door to the back yard so it doesn't really fit the usual criteria for a dedicated home theatre room. matt - an outdoor cinema sounds sooooo awesome. we'll need pics "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. Even if you just had a mock drive-in in the backyard with a '57 Chevy shell that you could sit in and watch your movies. ...When I win the lottery... It would be nice if we opened exactly the same thread in the general forum, to see and compare the results, and understand how people read the forums! Re: How many people in here have separate "Cinema Rooms" 34Apr 01, 2011 9:00 am Hi all, We will be building a new home with a theather room too... Just a concern, as the theather room always comes with carpet, where will you guys be placing the speakers? I have heard some recommandations, that speakers should be put on hard surfaces like tiles or laminate flooring. What do you guys think? ___________________ Building with Carlisle Homes, Montrose 36 in Point Cook http://www.pointcookfb.blogspot.com/ Re: How many people in here have separate "Cinema Rooms" 35Apr 01, 2011 9:22 am cuppyccake Hi all, We will be building a new home with a theather room too... Unless you are Steven Spielberg of course Thanks Hi Fekish mate... to answer your question, simply yes. I am an integrator and own a AV installation business and we recently finished a Home Automation with a dedicated home cinema and the cost is just a shy of $1M AU... Most inidviduals that you have this kind of setup are someone that has a lot of liquid cash to play with... cheers Cheek0 Re: How many people in here have separate "Cinema Rooms" 37Apr 01, 2011 10:29 am Pugs cuppyccake Hi all, We will be building a new home with a theather room too... But it'd be acoustically shocking with hard floors and any kind of audio. So we've got a nice tight carpet going in there.
