Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Mar 21, 2011 7:48 pm Hi In the past I have used a 5.8ghz av sender receiver for sending either my tivo or topfield up to the bedroom. this has worked fine. We are at the tail end of our extension and I bought a new tv and went to set it up tonight with the av sender but the signal appears to be too weak. Distance wise it probably hasn't changed but it seems to have to go through a couple more walls. What can I do? Is there another way I can send the picture to the bedroom? We are putting data points at the two main rooms where tvs are but I wasn't going to worry at the bedroom as I couldn't see the need. It can still be done though. There is talk of a 6 port switch going into the study. that is all I really know. To top it off the builders threw out the box from the tv today so I can't even return it- if I can't watch my recordings I have no desire to use the bedroom tv. Hubby is away alot so prefer to curl up in bed in Winter but I can't go back to watching ads! Thanks Donna I am not great with all the terminology so if you do have a suggestion plain english would be appreciated LOL. Re: Av sender won't work with in our extension- any suggesti 2Mar 21, 2011 9:00 pm On our units when we had a problem we changed the frquency of the signal. On our system there was a switch with three positions on the underside of each unit. We just tried all three positions of the switch until we found the best one. You have to have the switch on same position on both units. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Av sender won't work with in our extension- any suggesti 4Mar 21, 2011 9:10 pm can you locate the unit some how to minimize the number of walls the signal has to travel through. It is a signal issue 5.8ghz is very high and i doubt it would travel very far especially through many walls. Also what does the antenna look like??? Is it a directional antenna? or does it look like something that would radiate evenly in all directions?? Re: Av sender won't work with in our extension- any suggesti 7Mar 22, 2011 10:31 pm Hi Donna, You can use the ethernet cable with one of these: http://www.thecableconnection.com.au/In ... 8B10C.html Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ What you will need to do is make sure you have a loop from the first room to the second room. ie. Run a cat5 / 6 from the lounge room to a patch panel and back to the bedroom. You cannot use these with an internet switch. It needs to be a direct run even if it has joins. Hope that helps! Cheers, Matt Re: Av sender won't work with in our extension- any suggesti 8Mar 24, 2011 8:46 pm Thank you. I got something similar at Jaycar today. The one I got had an IR extender on it too. Definitely wasn't an issue with the antennae as I had been using it successfully until the house got bigger! Hopefully it is all being installed tomorrow! BCATID=309 I actually bought two. I have cat5 going from the lounge to the bedroom and another lot of cat5 going from the lounge to the family room. I have a receiver in the bedroom and family room. I am using the one transmitter and swapping it between the family room port and bed port as needed which isn't that often. It means that the kids can watch either the TiVo, topfield or DVD player (av switch) which are in the lounge in the family room (new room in the house). I was going to put the toppy in there but now I can keep them all together. I also bought a harmony 300 for use in the family roo ( will prob get one for the bedroom as well). Hubby will never work out the remote but my 7yr old had it sussed straight away! Cheers Donna Re: Av sender won't work with in our extension- any suggesti 12Mar 28, 2011 7:53 pm Hi Donna, Are you sure thats it? You said you go one with IR as well??
