Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Mar 15, 2011 9:20 pm In the process of getting some quotes for some pre-wiring and while we've opted for 50 mm conduit for the projector, an installation company suggested we also put the power through the conduit instead of an SGPO in the ceiling. Pro's are that its easier to switch off at the base of the wall (where the other end of the conduit is) and one can probably put the projector power onto surge protection. Cons - ??? Is it okay to have 240V power cable in the conduit with HDMI/HDMI over Cat6 ? Whats the min space required between the 2 ? Re: 240V cable and HDMI/HDMI over CAT6 together in conduit O 7Mar 17, 2011 7:37 pm I think 50mm is the minimum but Pugs will confirm that. A stud width would be a good start!! Thanks - I think the job is too small for most of the home theater installers so they either don't want the job or are over quoting. All I need is 4 pairs of Cat 6 to be run, 6 pairs of audio cable to be run and each end terminated to wall plates (2/4 port for Cat 6 and 8/8 pair plates to 2 pairs of surround speakers. In the worst case, I'll have to get the builders electrician to do this and make sure its done to the correct separation and terminate the ends myself. Anyone in Sydney who's a licensed cabler who's interested in a "small job" ? Can't find this doc online/looks like a "paid for doc" (which I find strange). Can you confirm what is the min separation distance - would be nice for my own reference simply to check that the electrician and cabler aren't running next to each other when I do get to checking out the wiring. Yep, you have to pay to download it from the SAI Global website. I'll check at work tomorrow for you, its beer o'clock here in Darwin Re: 240V cable and HDMI/HDMI over CAT6 together in conduit O 13Mar 18, 2011 9:38 pm Hi, There is some information about separation in the AS/ACIF S009 wiring rules on page 56, section 16.3. To answer your original question, you could run the 240V in the same conduit as the Cat6, but you would need to sub-duct the 240V inside another conduit (orange) inserted inside the white communications conduit (this in accordance with section 16.3.3 of S009), but it wouldn't make sense to go to this expense when you can just run the 240V cable on the other side of the joist Paul Re: 240V cable and HDMI/HDMI over CAT6 together in conduit O 14Mar 18, 2011 9:56 pm if you want them at the same spot then just use two conduits.. that is how they wire your phone line from the street, it sits side by side with the electrical conduit in most cases. the conduit would need to be undamaged regardless of what network is in play.
