Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Mar 11, 2011 10:22 am Firstly, I was on a very small budget and needed something that would sound better than the factory speakers on my new tv. I have a 5.1 system. The room that the system will be installed in is 5m x 4.2m, only 3 sides are enclosed as it is the open plan living area. A 55" LED tv is on a 2.2m long lowline unit that is 550mm high on the 4.2m wall. Main couch is hard up against the back wall. The options that I am thinking of at the moment are: Front and centre speakers sitting on the lowline unit with the rears mounted to the rear wall. OR All speakers mounted on the front and rear walls, approx 2m off the floor level. Opinions? Thanks Some people don't have time to do the job right the first time, but seem to have plenty of time to fix their mistakes. So it really comes down to what you think would look better - it would definitely be cheaper just sitting them on the lowline unit. If you're not happy with the sound, you can always raise them up down the track. Re: Advice on placement/layout - cheap system 3Mar 17, 2011 2:47 pm Shacky has some good advice there. Go with whatever looks the best in the space. If you have kids go with up high as they cant get to them and go with lower down if not. The sound difference would be minimal! Re: Advice on placement/layout - cheap system 4Mar 18, 2011 8:56 am Thanks guys, will hopefully install the speakers this weekend if I get the time. I think that wall mount will be the go, no kids at the moment, but a nephew that is just about to walk.
