Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Feb 04, 2011 9:57 am Im setting up a basic/moderate home theatre system for a mate. With a budget of around $3000. Heres is what I have to work with - Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ He dosent really have the room for floor standing speakers etc due to the cabinets being made to sit either side of the tv/fireplace. So I have been researching and have come down to two different in-wall setups for the front speakers. Paradigm AMS-350 or Paradigm AMS-LCR. I have decided to use some in-ceiling speakers for the rears I have chosen Paradigm AMS-150Rs to match the fronts. (Im still unsure of there correct placement in relation to the room/lounge/fronts). As you can see, there is no room for a centre speaker without serious modifications to the feature tiles/rocks (and hes not really up for that). I have researched and Im thinking of using the tvs own speakers to run as the centre, using the receiver to pass the audio via hdmi to the tv (is it possible?) Im still not 100% sure what is a good pairing for a receiver/amp but have been looking at Pioneer VSX-820/920. Im thinking the 920 as its 7.1 and would be a bit more future proof if he decided to add a centre and a few extra on the side walls. Im not 100% sure on a subwoofer. But from what I have read, you tend to need a sub when running in-wall/ceilings speakers. Depending on the prices I can get the fronts/rears/receiver will leave the remainder to purchase the sub. I have looked into the Richter Thor but it is a little out of budget. Any suggestions of a place to purchase these item. I have tired Doug from Peninsula Home Theatre (who I have used before) but he is "having trouble with the new Paradigm distributor. They will no longer supply Paradigm to us .. Seems some companies are now doing this so they have a better control of pricing." Any suggestions, additions are welcome. Shane. Re: Paradigm In-Wall/Ceiling Speakers 2Feb 05, 2011 12:36 pm Hi Shane. I can supply Paradigm speakers, including the AMS range (good choice, by the way) - I had no issues getting an account with the new distributor (for a couple of reason - not only did I have a good honest talk with them at the CEDIA Expo last year in Melbourne and we hit it off, but also I've never listed the speakers on-line at discounted prices as some sellers had done at some times, which is against most distributor's rules, not just Audio Active who look after Paradigm...) Have you considered the Paradigm PDR8 and PDR10 subs? They are (as always with Paradigm) good value. The only sub I ever use that is less than those sorts of prices is the Jamo Sub210 (replaces the Sub200) -RRP $499, which is still good for small~modest rooms. Regarding the centre speaker: Don't do the TV speaker thing - it's messy/complicated, usually governed by the TV's own volume as well as the AVR (yuck!!)... I'd look into getting a normal cabinet centre speaker like the Paradigm CC-290 (or even CC-190 if the CC-290 won't fit) and mount it inside the top of the cavity/alcove underneath the TV (on a shelf). Re: Paradigm In-Wall/Ceiling Speakers 3Feb 05, 2011 2:50 pm Great suggestions Rod, What do you think about this combo - Fronts - Paradigm AMS-350 or AMS-LCR Rears - Paradigm AMS-150R Centre - Pending (If I can talk him into modifying the feature wall) Receiver - Pioneer VSX-920 Sub - Not sure - Yamaha YST-SW515 / Cambridge X300 / Paradigm PDR-100 Re: Paradigm In-Wall/Ceiling Speakers 4Feb 08, 2011 7:53 am That combo looks OK (although I prefer the quality of Marantz over Pioneer). For the subwoofer, I'm not sure how the Cambridge X300 would perform but I can guarantee the Paradigm PDR-100 (was PDR10) will out-do the Yamaha YST-SW515, and the Paradigm costs less than the other two.
