I got few quotations and no one said the speakers need boxing at back. But one guy said it is better to box them in order to get better sound. I got two speakers on bulkhead column and center one on the wall. There are four speakers on the ceiling at back. Do I have to get those 7 speakers boxed at back. If not, what will happen. Any suggestions would be appreciated. NiMa If you already have 4 boxed at the back celing, no point in getting the full 7- unless your planing to organise a dance party Michael Chan | Australia wide Mortgage Broker Michael@ShapeHomeLoans.com.au | 1300 74 5626 | Fax: 02 8212 8909 http://www.ShapeHomeLoans.com.au Re: Boxes for Home Theatre Speakers 3Feb 01, 2011 9:12 am in term of sound quality, it be slighty better only- the most important point is to make sure you have the front, side and back coverd to give you the 3rd feel. Another then that - having 4 or 7 is a personal choice Michael Chan | Australia wide Mortgage Broker Michael@ShapeHomeLoans.com.au | 1300 74 5626 | Fax: 02 8212 8909 http://www.ShapeHomeLoans.com.au Re: Boxes for Home Theatre Speakers 5Feb 02, 2011 10:24 am Sorry but I only found shape's last post confusing... The primary purpose of 'back boxes' for in-wall and in-ceiling speakers is to provide a consistent and tested/proven space for them to operate in, thus to allow them to produce their best results. They also contribute to the reduction of the sound from the back of the speaker getting out and being heard in other areas of the house. Both of these functions are beneficial and offer potential improvement to the speakers' sound quality and sound isolation respectively, but are not critical. The speakers are designed to sound ~near their best without back boxes, in a variety of installed environments, and just how critical it is to sueeze the last bits of sonic perfection from them should be weighed up with how much $$ has been invested in them (eg. personally I wouldn't bother with In-walls/In-Ceilings that cost less than $1K a pair... as I believe even I would be hard-pressed to hear the improvement). Other methods can be used to reduce sound transfer from behind them (eg. insulation around in-wall speakers). We already paid for somfy motors for the blinds. The quote above was purely for “pre-wiring” so the blinds company can install the motors and blinds.
