Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Jan 28, 2011 9:09 am Hi Guys I got some Home Theatre Speakers and would like to get them checked for performance. I would like to get this done professionally with some kind of equipment - not to use a battery and a cable. The reason for this is got some water leaking through Home Theatre room for last year thunderstorm in Melbourne. I am in Dandenong (Melbourne). Any contact details would be appriciated. NiMa Re: Check Home Theatre Speakers for Performance 2Jan 31, 2011 12:50 pm I cannot think of any 'instrument' or 'device' that can check the performance of speakers per se, however, there are some checks the you can do and some checks that people like me can do. Firstly you can look at the drivers (woofer cones, tweeter domes, etc.) and see if they have any signs of damage, from holes/tears to discolouring. You can use a Sound Pressure Level metre and see if they output the same as each other given the same source (might require special programme material - stuff that guys like me have). Using this same specialised programme material you/we can also do things like 'rattle tests' and have a listen to each speaker across the entire sound spectrum to see if they exhibit any problems at particular frequencies. Or you can simply listen to them using varies source material - listen closely in some sort of sound controlled environment (ie. in a room with the door shut and no noises coming in from outside the room) and see if any of them sound funny/wrong or exhibit problems (distortion where the other speakers do not, crackling, scratchy, no treble, no bass, and so on...).
