Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Dec 28, 2010 6:15 pm Are people still going for projectors in their home theatres now that LCD/plasma TVs are so cheap? Would love to hear opinions on which one you think is better and why. Re: Projector or large LCD/plasma tv? 2Dec 29, 2010 8:14 am Projectors are as valid today as they always have been, for the same reason: They are the only way to get a massive picture in your Home Cinema (or where ever), which is the only way to truly replicate that real movie cinema feel. What has changed is the price, and while projectors have not dropped in price as much as flat panel TVs over the last 7 years (7 years ago a 50" plasma TV was $18,000!), they still have dropped heaps and are now much more affordable than they used to be - and you get a LOT better picture from them today compared to what you got 7 years ago. In saying that, they still suffer from the same shortcomings they always have: They do not perform as well in a lit room (although they are better than they used to be), and the globes in them still have a limited lifespan. This is why they are still not recommended to be used as an everyday TV... Re: Projector or large LCD/plasma tv? 3Dec 29, 2010 8:52 am I have a Plasma and Projector, I much prefer the projector in a proper controlled lighting environment. I like the way the projector handles fast motion and the colors seem more natural. There are a few common things to think about with a projector though. You really need good quality source films. You will notice how bad a DVD will look compared to a bluray for example and is simply the fact your watching something really big which will show all the imperfections. You also have the DLP ( which I prefer ) Vs the LCD debate with projectors. Another problem which I have just recently found is that it is really hard when moving homes with a 108" screen. I actually want to sell my HT gear and will make a post in the classified section of this forum. If you want to view a projector in a home environment before the 5th of January let me know. I live in the Adelaide Hills. Re: Projector or large LCD/plasma tv? 4Dec 29, 2010 12:18 pm for a dedicated HT room Projector.. for a multi purpose room LCD/ Plasma..
