Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation Re: What are things we need to consider for a home theatre? 2Dec 27, 2010 1:59 pm I would say sizing of the room, and placement of powerpoints/tv points (I would also recommend a phone point). When doing the sizing think of what you are putting in the room, and how much space they take up, and where you are putting the speakers etc to make sure you put nothing in the way, and viewing distance for the TV allowing space for the cabinet, or wall bracket and how forward your seats are going to be. Also wathc that the doors don't open onto anything you are intending to put in the room. If I was to win Lotto, I would build with a different builder, now to win lotto Re: What are things we need to consider for a home theatre? 3Dec 27, 2010 3:01 pm IMO the first thing to consider is where the room will be in relation to the rest of the house, because next to or above/below any bedrooms is always an issue for sound transfer. The acoustic dynamics of a reasonable HT sytem with a subwoofer means Low Frequency Effects [LFE] can easily pass through standard plaster/studframed walls. This gives you the equivilant to the "doof doof" of a P plater at traffic lights, which may mean no late night movies if kids/guests are in the house. Different sound treatments are available for the walls with acoustic plaster/bricks, hebel panels or in wall insulation. If you can don't puncture walls with powerpoints on either side. By using different layers of material with differnet densities it's easier to block different frequencies ie: heavy curtains/acoustic panels-plaster-insulation within stud frame more acoustic plaster. Even double plaster skins make a big difference. It's about the trades you hire and ensuring that they give a result that meets the industry standard and the home owners expectations.
