Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Aug 13, 2012 11:27 am Just having some apprehension about the layout of my media room. The dimensions are 5m wide and 3.9m long - I am a little concerned that I will be seated too close to the television. I am currently looking at a 64"-65" plasma wall mounted. I have chosen layout (facing the 5m wall) so that I can have a 4 person couch facing the TV. Dan Re: Advice regarding seating distance 5Aug 15, 2012 2:31 pm 'The Industry' AKA F*xt*l suggest for the best viewing experience you should sit 4 x the size of your TV away (i.e. for a 60 inch TV they say you should sit 240 inches away - that's 6.1 meters) - I haven't built a mansion so won't be relying on their guidance!!! Re: Advice regarding seating distance 8Aug 15, 2012 8:59 pm I always sit in the front section of a movie theatre...whats the point of a big screen if it aint in your face lol. We have a 55' tv and sit about 3 meters from it......But our projector throws a 4 meter image and we dont move the couch for that ....and love it. yes i was always the kid who sat on the floor 3 inches in front of the telly watching sat morning cartoons Re: Advice regarding seating distance 9Aug 16, 2012 3:41 pm Thanks all for the replies. Took the tape measure into Harvey Norman and positioned myself the distance from the plasma's I'm looking at. Although a little overwhelming I think I will get used to it. Standard Definition looked pretty crap up close, but this TV will be mainly used for HD and gaming so I don't forsee any issues xxennon No worries, I wasn't bragging or suggesting, as it may have sounded, just saying I think you will be fine!! Dan Definitely didn't take it that way. Just seems too much hassle for me to wire things up for a projector. sceen7 I always sit in the front section of a movie theatre...whats the point of a big screen if it aint in your face lol. Probably true but remember you are positioning your own speakers at home in relation to your seating etc. It was halarious when we first turned on our 55', it was in a tiny loungeroom pre renno. Geeze it was like imax in there till we got used to it. Re: Advice regarding seating distance 11Aug 17, 2012 9:24 pm Guys i have a room 2850x5000, what do you guys recommand? That said the couch goes around the room and the closest point is 3 metres at which point it is too large. Its a tough question as we all see differently but I think ideally 65" would be good at about 4 metres.
