Hi, has anybody bought a Sonos system? Is it worth it, or are there other products out there that do something similar?
I love the fact that it's wireless and can connect to the ipod...
Your feedback is appreciated and thank you.

I would have said that it would be playing the songs directly from the NAS, which happens to be the same one that the itunes library resides, I don't think Itunes would have anything to do with it? Bagheera, It isn't cheap!!! Very few places to actually buy it in Perth You won't need iTunes running or even your PC to be turned on when you run the Sonos. I use iTunes as normal (library in the 'My Music' folder) and 'dump' a copy of my Library onto the NAS box using SyncToy (a Microsoft product) - so it also acts as a backup. The NAS box is connected to a switch, along with what Sonos call a 'bridge' (I hope I have the terminology correct) - basically acts as a wireless access point for the Sonos network. You control it with a dedicated unit (which I recommend) or there is an iPhone app that you can also use. It isn't cheap. You can buy packs though which represent a slight discount over the RRP. If you are SOR, there is a place opposite Carousel which sell the units. Re: Sonos? 10Nov 22, 2010 5:06 pm Serentity It coule be cheaper to buy the Sonos systems overseas at the moment due to our lovely High Aust dollar?> Singapore?> Yes, I explored that avenue too, but the local distributor of Sonos here in Aus has this disclaimer on their website: The Sonos units sold in Australia have a different wireless setup to those sold in the US. The US Sonos units do not conform to Australia CTick certification standards. Sonos units manufactured for the US market cannot be legally imported, sold or used in Australia. The Sonos units sold in Australia are similar to the units Sonos sell in Europe. You will find that the Sonos Europe web store pricing in Euros or Pounds is similar to Australian pricing. Not sure if it's true or just a way of 'scaring' us to buy through local channels. I found this post on Whirlpool: http://whrl.pl/RcwgaQ Quote: The Local Wall Wart for the Controller cradle is rated 100v – 240v , so with an adapter , I wouldnt see a problem if the USA one is similar. Quick check on US site shows the specs as the same : ""DC charger Input 100-240 VAC, 50-60 Hz; Output 5 VDC, 2A"" so just a physical pin adapter required. easy ! Customs? I bought my main system locally , and have then imported a number of ZP120's for around the house. neither was hit for duty as they were under $1000, a full system may be different. even then you are still saving $$$$ Dont believe their "radio system is different" or any other BS, the units are identical , and simply set the power switch to 240 before plugging in . Love my system, Wife acceptance factor is also A+ Built 3br house in Glenorchy, Tas in 2001 * * * Built 5br courtyard house in Lenah Valley, Tas in 2011 - Homeone thread / Blog Re: Sonos? 13Jan 02, 2011 9:30 pm Hi There, I was looking at the Sono's system myself....then looked at the price vs other systems....you know you can go with something as simple as a Logitech Squeeze box boom...you can get them for about $170 on Ebay and it does everything the Sono's does ...also you can control as many squeeze boxes from a Iphone app or Ipod touch app....it is excellent...!!! have a look Cheers Brendon Re: Sonos? 14Jan 08, 2011 8:43 am The best (non-eBay) price I've found is WWS on Amazon - http://amzn.to/sonos-au I just got 2 S5s and a Zonebridge for A$840 inc. shipping. Will let you know how they go when they arrive! I've been looking at sonos myself. Not sure whether it's the Australian distributor or the end seller who's making the $$$ but this sonos gear is significantly marked up compared to prices overseas, and bringing it in to Australia from OS yourself! There are a few different resellers on Amazon, and searches for Sonos products always brings up all the results from all of the resellers! One doesn't ship to Australia, one does but the shipping costs are about 3x more, which is why I made the amzn.to shortcut above so I could always find the right one :) Built 3br house in Glenorchy, Tas in 2001 * * * Built 5br courtyard house in Lenah Valley, Tas in 2011 - Homeone thread / Blog Re: Sonos? 17Jan 11, 2011 7:04 pm Dammit that is a good deal...If only I could think of something to do with the second S5... hmmmm P1T Read about my building experience: http://secondhomebuild.blogspot.com Dale Alcock Homes - 'The Nautilus' in Bletchley Park, Southern River - WA Read about my Clipsal C-BUS Home Automation Project: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=20854 Re: Sonos? 19Jan 11, 2011 8:40 pm Depends what you would be willing to pay?
