Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Nov 16, 2010 2:42 pm We went to have our foxtel installed yesterday but the guys couldn't get the wires up the conduit with the t.v ariel as the conduit wasn't big enough. They left us the cabling and said sometimes sparkies have a magic way of getting it up there!! Was wondering why they would say that if they couldn't do it themselves (they werent very helpful and wanted out the door as soon as it was in the too hard basket) Anyway, we don't want the cabling running on the outside of the walls, but hubby is desperate to get the foxtel connected. Is there any other options? (smaller cables or anything) It's a single brick internal wall. I know, I thought we had asked for all the foxtel to be pre wired at prestart, but seems we all missed it! Re: Any other way to hook up foxtel?? 2Nov 16, 2010 2:46 pm You might be able to get an electrician to do it. I had the foxtel installed before the antenna - antenna guy said it might not be possible due t th size but he managed. Foxtel guys pob couldn't be bothered!! O.k, it is wired up to a central spot in the roof, we already have it connected to the antenna on top of the roof. I have no idea what you mean by what other cables are there cat6 aswell?? if yes how many ?? sorry, told you I wasn't so great when it comes to this stuff They were going to put in an IQ2 box, but I'd be happy with an IQ1. They were able to put a standard box in the activity room, and I am guessing it is because there was a cavity in the wall behind it. Re: Any other way to hook up foxtel?? 9Nov 16, 2010 6:02 pm might be impossle to use a IQ2 box.. are there any close external walls that they coudl use the caivty of? if so that might be the only option.... We did ask at prestart about getting the foxtel cabling sorted, but seems with everything else we were sorting out, both us and the builder forgot about it. You'd think these days, that builders would put a wide enough conduit in! Re: Any other way to hook up foxtel?? 13Nov 17, 2010 3:34 pm Pugs, how wide should the conduit be to get this done. We're getting 25mm conduit. Is this wide enough to fit say like what Rizzo has got Re: Any other way to hook up foxtel?? 14Nov 17, 2010 3:39 pm Rizzo You'd think these days, that builders would put a wide enough conduit in! You would think the builders these days should have like everything written down so they can tick the box as to whether its been covered or not. Like Builder - "Will you be wanting to put in Foxtel in the Future".......Client - "Yes" .........Builder - "Ok, conduit to support the wires, etc. TICK" but No We have to think of everything Re: Any other way to hook up foxtel?? 15Nov 17, 2010 4:02 pm thirsty Pugs, how wide should the conduit be to get this done. We're getting 25mm conduit. Is this wide enough to fit say like what Rizzo has got 32mm conduits allow up to 4 x cat6 and 2 x RG6 with room to spare.... also the way you set up your home cabling has alot to do with this.... a smart wiring package that you and your cabler have discussed what you want to do now and in the future would be the best way. thirsty Rizzo You'd think these days, that builders would put a wide enough conduit in! So, we would be better off upgrading to 32 mm just incase we decide to go down that track later on. Its so confusing Re: Any other way to hook up foxtel?? 17Nov 17, 2010 4:49 pm thirsty Pugs, I do believe that you just hit 1000 posts Thanks for that. Re: Any other way to hook up foxtel?? 20Nov 18, 2010 9:51 pm OMG, we are such idiots!! I was laying on the lounge today and looking around the room and it hit me... Right next to the t.v there is a wall that sticks out and has a niche on it. That niche was suppose to be way deeper, but the brickies bricked it up to be shallow and we left it like that. There is a whopping great big void behind it!!! I called hubby to make sure as he was up there after the foxtel installers left and couldn't believe he hadn't thought of it, he said he could see right to the ground down it AND him and the foxtel installers would have had to step over it to get to the t.v point!!! So i guess they will charge me another call out fee... grrrr, but at least we can hook it up. We will have a cord sticking out the side wall, but we are getting a cabinet made for that spot anyway, so will just put it through that and it will all be hidden. I recently went through a similar renovation and move scenario when updating our family home. We also swapped some rooms around and tackled a major… 2 9752 Yeah mine about 9 metres long and 8 wide with slope of 25% at one point but the end point of the outlet is past the side of garage and if he concretes allowing for… 4 4506 4 9039 |
