I can source the Rg6 and Cat 6 cables and possibly even run them. But i need someone to terminate them (an electrician). Anybody know anyone who is willing to do the job? Also is it difficult to become an electrician? I read that you need to first become an apprentice first. I wish there was a tafe course you could study for. Anyone has any ideas? Cheers for your help. Re: Doing structured wiring need help. 2Oct 26, 2010 10:54 pm Just so you know there are licenses required to do that type of work so it might be difficult to get someone licensed to finish your cabling because they become responsible for what you have done. Also the Telco’s can refuse to connect the home if you do not have a TCA1 form and guess what! You have to be licensed to fill one out if you want check this site www.smartwiredhouse.com.au for installers, if not good luck with your quest Re: Doing structured wiring need help. 3Oct 27, 2010 7:16 am kenshinfan1 I can source the Rg6 and Cat 6 cables and possibly even run them. A licenced cabler with data and coax endorsements is what you are after, an electrician still needs a cablers' licence with these endorsements to do the work and do the paperwork. kenshinfan1 Anybody know anyone who is willing to do the job? Where do you live? kenshinfan1 Also is it difficult to become an electrician? Nope, do the four years of schooling and the work as an apprentice (learn to swing a shovel and do as you are told and you'll be right). kenshinfan1 I wish there was a tafe course you could study for. Anyone has any ideas? The Certificate III in Electrotechnology (System Electrician) is tought by TAFE Colleges, I did mine through Charles Darwin University in Alice Springs but its still an apprenticeship. kenshinfan1 Cheers for your help. Not a drama. Re: Doing structured wiring need help. 4Oct 28, 2010 8:38 pm kenshinfan1 Hi All, I am building and i was wondering if anyone out there would be able to provide structured wiring. Cheers for your help. You don't need to be a sparkie to do data cabling and unlike electrical licences you can get a data cablers licence without an apprenticeship. Search the net and you will find many companies that offer training courses for this. The one my employer used, many many years ago was JB Hunter Technology. Pity about the restricttions on an electrcians licence though. I would love to get one to be (legally) allowed to change power points, light switches, light fittings and appliances but alas not so easy in the ACT, despite having done an associate diploma in Electrinic engineering and 20 years experiance working in the telecomunications industry.
