Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Oct 25, 2010 9:54 pm Hi will be needing some small compact wall mounted speakers for a 5.1 system in the main living area. My wife likes the Bose ones, as they look nice I will have to live with the looks nice component but would prefer something a bit cheaper and less hyped than Bose if this is possible . Or are they the best ultra compact speakers after all despite the expense Mike 2/3 of the way thru the build Re: compact wall mounted speakers -any suggestions 2Oct 26, 2010 3:47 pm Hi Mike. My opinion on Bose is that they are way, way, way overpriced for what you get. If you want a 'compact' sub/sat (subwoofer/satelite) system - because the little speakers look good - and therefore be restricted to a relatively low output and average quality sound from your surround sound system you don't have to pay the big $$ price for Bose to get it - you can get the same level of sonic perfomance from a system costing less than $1000 (much less...). Re: compact wall mounted speakers -any suggestions 3Oct 26, 2010 5:26 pm Thanks Rodda, Do you have any brands to suggest I can look into??? Its really for day to day use in the main family / common area I will be having a dedicated home theatre with better stuff thanks Mike Mike 2/3 of the way thru the build Re: compact wall mounted speakers -any suggestions 4Oct 27, 2010 11:16 am Hi Mike. Brands like Yamaha, Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, and many other known quality brands make affordable 'Home Theatre In A Box' (HTIB) systems that should satisfy. Check out places like JB HiFi, Harvey Norman, **** Smith PowerHouse, etc. when these things are on sale, like in their catalogues and I reckon you'll get the best deal. And like you suggest, real Home Cinemas should have real sound systems and the difference between these and the types of systems mentioned above are cleary heard and felt, and I believe well worth the extra effort and $... Re: compact wall mounted speakers -any suggestions 6Nov 03, 2010 1:10 pm Hi guys, going on with this topic. Any specific recommendations for cool looking surround systems about that sound reasonably good? I'm after a pretty simple setup in my living room as well and since it's in the most visible room of the house I don't want big boxy floor standers around the place. I like the idea of the yamaha setups as they include a dedicated amp rather than a dvd player (which I'm not keen on). Thanks. Looking at some of the designs on websites, they are all selling very similar products. I get that you want something stylish.
