Re: Cost vs use. 22Nov 17, 2007 9:24 pm Talking about cost Vs use, we changed the purpose of the"lounge" room of our house, put walls and a double door on it and made it a kids play room. Unless used regularly i think formal lounges are a waste of space. So i think that way it will get more use. (In my opinion)
We also went with the larger alfresco option which i am not sure will get as much use as our theatre. For about the same outlay as the equipment required for our theatre too. Theres another fly for the ointment. Alfresco's like Home Theatres are another large outlay, will we get the value for money out of them? I think our dogs will make more use out of it than we will. The other benefit of both alfresco's and HT's in houses these days is resale value. Re: Cost vs use. 23Nov 17, 2007 9:35 pm We all want more and houses are getting bigger. We do it because we can. Is it better? I'm not sure.
Home theate, alfresco, three car garages, smart homes, computer networks, pools, ensuites for all bedrooms, multiple TVs, the list goes on. Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: Cost vs use. 24Nov 17, 2007 10:39 pm First_Timer_Ray It was legitimate questions as to how much they get used. . Well the one in our house design is semi-open - it has a double door opening into the theatre room from the "great room" which also has the dining, lounge and kitchen in it, we will be using it as a tv room with our existing home theatre equipement in it until we can afford to upgrade ... but a multipurpose room fits with us better .... my partners Uncle and his parter recently built their new place, they have a designated theatre room complete with amazing double row seating and a huge screen .... it is awsome! and they love it as they are really into watching movies and it gets a real workout! if it was in our house, it wouldn't get the usage .... Different strokes for different folks! Fiona Re: Cost vs use. 25Nov 18, 2007 9:15 am Hi Ray.
You're cool mate, and your question is A-OK. You can probably guess that I'd use mine a fair bit - I'd say I average a movie a week (watched Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix last night...... didn't see Phoenix in it though .....). As I said, If you want one and can afford it, who's to say you're making the wrong decision? I was just expressing my frustration at whenever this topic comes up the same people seem to always want to swing their boots at it - even making sure they point out that Matt and I do have a business installing custom theatres: www.avdreams.com.au (if you're gunna point it out I guess I can too ), and making accusatory hints at us being biased. This was a passion of ours long before we decided to actually start asking for money for helping others install their systems (hence why we actaully know a lot more than the average tradie that claims he can 'run your cables for you'....). If Matt and I didn't have our little business we'd still make exactly the same pro-home theatre comments because we like and enjoy them so much, as do the majority of our friends. Re: Cost vs use. 27Nov 18, 2007 5:04 pm Oh Man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You guys charge to install the HT stuff? I'll have to count up all the 5 cent coins in my piggy bank now to see if i can afford you! But seriously though, each to their own with their lifestyle choices. Quite often this is a very cheap way to get AV equipment as it is subsidised by the games writers sales. But may not have the bells and whistles or look of other items. Each to their own and no-one is trying to change anyone or say we should or should not have HT's. I think Ray asked a question because she wants to know what drives people to put in HT's - it's created some discussion, we all think, learn and evaluate. That's whats forums are good for.
