Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Sep 05, 2010 7:42 pm Anyone had any experience with this? Saw a heap of systems at the home show, but they all seem geared to more "home user" people, whereas myself and my partner are both network engineers. So we are looking for something that we are able to program etc. Had knx recommended as it has compatibility with a lot of devices and isn't as locked down as some others....... Not really a fan of the Hills gear. And there was one system that had to be totally power cycled every night or the switches would hang. It was a little scary hearing the sales guy say that is a normal thing....... The M1 (as suggested by Jezza) is probably the ultimate in terms of mass compatibility - I think it is sold in Australia under the Ness brand (http://www.ness.com.au) P1T Read about my building experience: http://secondhomebuild.blogspot.com Dale Alcock Homes - 'The Nautilus' in Bletchley Park, Southern River - WA Read about my Clipsal C-BUS Home Automation Project: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=20854 Re: knx based home automation systems???? 4Sep 12, 2010 8:00 pm Make sure you check out the Dynalite Range for Home Automation. I worked for them programming systems for 6 years. Residential and Commercial and im currently building with it in. I will be using a RTI front end on the system for 'fancy factor', but you will find that you will get a whole lot more for your money than C-bus. Where are you located? i can put you onto someone. Cheers, Nate Re: knx based home automation systems???? 5Sep 12, 2010 8:04 pm I'm having a look through the Hager catalogue at the moment..... I don't want to go down the cbus path. Will see how I go. Remember to check specs of the dimmers that you are using as some i know are only trailing edge dimming and not leading edge. You will also need to check to see that the transormfers that you will be using for your lights are compatiable. Once again i know of a heap of units that will hum and buzz when dimmed. Alot of this equipment is not universally compatible worldwide. Just a few questions to get the noggen working Nate Re: knx based home automation systems???? 7Sep 15, 2010 9:29 pm bless_you what are you looking at doing exactly? just lighting or multi-room audio, HVAC, curtains, security, sprinkers... and what products are you looking into exactly? It's open and compatible to many different companies. ABB, JUNG, MERTEN, HAGER, GIRA, BERKER. Yes they are all European companies - KNY was developed in europe so here are almost all companies involved in. Over cat5 or higher are connected only backbones - different levels of buildings or building to building. Now some companies developed optical connection to avoid lightnings. Multiroom audio can be build by Russound or Revox. Revox is higher with prices, but it have excelent quailty of products. It cames from Germany. I thing that in AU is representative for them. Check http://www.revox.eu Russound is not familiar to me, but it can be checked on http://www.russound.com/ it's cheaper with same result of implementing. If You looking for multiroom video can be solution with network mediaplayer and NAS ideal solution. Check with Lacie About Lights - check if You want to have dimmable lights, if so You could not use LED lights (yet). Also energy saving lights are normaly not dimmable - except those declared as dimmable !! I hope I answered on some questions..
