Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Aug 23, 2010 8:59 pm Hi, a friend of mine has just purchased an iPad with the idea of wall mounting it in the main living area of the house the is building, for the main purpose of having music control. He would like to be able to listen to this single source in 4-5 different rooms, each with individual volume controls, be it contained within the iPad or a physically wired control in each room. Is there an easy/ cheap way to do this, or does he need to spend thousands on a proprietry system? I have the hills music hub in my home, and although this would serve his needs, I feel it may be a little overkill for what he wants to achieve. (Plus I have had a few reliability issues with the system, some of which have not been resolved) Thanks, Dan Re: Multi Room Audio with iPad 2Aug 27, 2010 8:54 pm Hi Dan, Proprietory systems can utilise this feature (1 that comes to mind is Russound). I believe that to do this simply with Hills systems wouldn't be very effective. Essentially you are integrating it with the system via either RS-232 or Wireless using some sort of Application. I believe the lower end systems wouldn't be able to integrate as well. Certainly something off the shelf isn't available to my knowledge. Russound have an I-Bridge that it uses to integrate this I believe. Re: Multi Room Audio with iPad 3Aug 29, 2010 9:22 am You need to look into using the Wi-Fi feature of the iPad and using something like IR Blaster on a PC to control required IR devices. Obviously the iPad would easily be able to control any PC based stuff. You still need the amplification and zoning/switching for the rooms where you want to hear this stuff though...
