Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation Re: Overkill 2Aug 26, 2010 8:39 am I would say "YES" to that. The resolution would be so low that you will be able to see every single pixel on the screen. Unless you are sitting reallllly far away, which defeats the whole purpose of a large screen in the first place. Re: Overkill 4Aug 26, 2010 12:29 pm Well actually that resolution is still OK for projecting - 480 vertical is standard def NTSC, therefore U.S. DVDs and many people for years have been projecting those on screens that size (110") and bigger. And, decent video processing in the projector can make some improvement to that resolution as well... What you don't want to so is use it all the time though if you are concerned about the life and replacement cost of the bulb in the projector... Re: Overkill 6Aug 26, 2010 3:17 pm I watch HEAPS of avi stuff at that resolution on my projector. Cartoons: Family Guy, Simpsons, American Dad, All Drawn Together, etc etc etc look just fine. Movies, normally its panning when they have dropped frames that annoys me more than the screen artifacts left over from compression. I say go for it, if your like me and you download something that you like I find my self buying it, ripping it as an ISO and putting it on my server as a loss-less copy that I can play on any of the tvs in the house anyway. Re: Overkill 7Aug 26, 2010 4:16 pm Thanks mikkyG.. I have drawn up a diagram depicting the cabling requirements for my new house... was wondering if you guys would be availbel to comment your views on it... (b) Is there any way of re-distributing FOXTEL without purchasing additional setup boxes? (c) Does the diagram makes sense? Is there any other way to make it more efficient? Many thanks! Re: Overkill 8Aug 26, 2010 4:21 pm A NAS is a good idea but some units really are not suited to streaming data to more than one source at a time. Because there's just the 2 of us in our house it was rarely a problem, but we beefed up our file server to handle our movies a while back and it seemed like a better solution for us. Re: Overkill 10Aug 26, 2010 5:41 pm really overkill .. you don't need "seperate" network points for each type of traffic once the data becomes "IP" traffic any pc/ device can pick up what it needs and then plays it back/ downloads it... I would also avoid having more then 1 TV point .. with hubs and such you can get foxtel over the same cables as the FTA so then all it requires is a set top box to decode the foxtel in each room you need it... then all you need to decide is how many sockets you would like installed into each room... I'd avoid an "Off the shelf" NAS for this type of set up... custom made home server in a mid size case... 6 - 8 1- 2TB HD's time to start talking to a cabler near you about all this... Even if he wouldn't need separate networks, I do advocate the use of multiple data points in each room. It may just be my house (over 20 assigned IP addresses), but I'm beginning to see more than one device requiring a data point in each room, and thinking back it would have been for effective in the long run to have multiple lines to each room (capable of separating into different networks) than having to run multiple switches that I do now. So for all the runs you have now and think you will need, I would double it for a start.
