Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Nov 02, 2007 11:25 am Hi all, just some more stuff to share.
Last Saturday marked the finish of what we these days call our typical Home Theatre + Multi-room Audio package install: Stage 1: It starts with making some decisions over the plans - how they want the theatre setup (obviously we offer plenty of helpful advice), which rooms they want audio in from the Multi-room system. Stage 2: Go in at frame stage to run all of the required cables/wires, leaving nothing out. This is of the utmost importance if the house being built is 2 storey. Stage 3 (optional): Sometimes we are asked to come back after the plaster is done but before paint to cut holes for things like in-wall and in-ceiling speakers. Stage 4: Usually by this time everything has been taken care of to allow us to come in and complete the installation - usually either just before or just after the home owner moves in. All components are installed, configured and tested. In the odd case there may have been a piece of equipment not available by the time everything else was (often due to last minute changes - that's cool, we are quite flexible), and at the customer's discretion we complete the install minus the item and come back to add it to the system (obviously, if this item was a "show stopper" then we couldn't do this, this stage would have to be delayed) a soon as we can. Anyway, here's some images from Saturday: 1. Back right corner: Rod ****** down on the job (wiring the 12 in-ceiling speakers (24 wires) for the Multi-room system - more comfortable this way): Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ 2. Back left corner: The AV rack with the gear for this room, the theatre (minus DVD player - it arrived a little after this picture was taken): Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ 3. Front wall, prior to tidy-up (and DVD player): 110" Fixed screen, Mordaunt-Short 908i fronts and 905i centre, Jamo Sub 250: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ 4. Front wall, this time with DVD (and no flash this time): Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We do have to pop back in tomorrow to finish off a couple of things - some last minute changes like mentioned above... Then add in a couple for the bedroom, living and alfreco/outdoor area, and viola you have 12 or more!!!!
I'd love this in our place, Rod, need to talk soon about our requirements. ![]() Re: Another long project completed... 7Nov 02, 2007 12:20 pm ![]() How many speakers can one person with two ears listen to??? So you can listen in other rooms I would guess. Family room gets a couple, outside area, bedroom (if you are so inclined) makes up the other 6 speakers after theatre room gets 6 ceiling ones (7.1) ![]() Re: Another long project completed... 8Nov 02, 2007 12:33 pm 2 pairs of speakers in 6 other rooms.... = 12 speakers
plus 7 speakers and a sub in the theatre room!! = 8 speakers Re: Another long project completed... 10Nov 02, 2007 12:42 pm Phoenix wrote Quote: Arkraider, when you think about it, if you have a 7.1 system you would need 8 speakers (including sub woofer) for the theatre alone! Study Formal Lounge Kitchen / Living Alfresco Master Bedroom Upstairs living Each Zone is controlled separately (volume etc) via a neat little wallpad in each area.. You can have a cd in the master bedroom whilst listening to the footy out in the alfresco for example. The speakers in the study I don't get, surely the pc in there would have speakers?? Gav & Vanessa Building In Melbourne (Sth East Suburbs) http://www.arkraider.blogspot.com/ Rawdon Hill Construction - Canterbury Heritage Re: Another long project completed... 13Nov 02, 2007 12:48 pm ![]() Rod, can a 5.1 amp be used for a multi-room setup or does it need to be 7.1 amp or doesn't it matter, can you use some sort of switching system? Depends on the amp. A few 7.1 amp have a 5.1 option and you can choose what the other 2 speakers do ie. use as a 7.1 setup or use as a seperate pair of speakers to another area. Its sometimes referred to as a "B" pair Re: Another long project completed... 14Nov 02, 2007 12:52 pm ![]() Cool.... ![]() ![]() Sounds expensive again though..... ![]() Especially the individual wall pads? The speakers in the study I don't get, surely the pc in there would have speakers?? Not OTT expensive but it is a few $$$. These clients wanted sound everywhere. For example you can turn on a cd and have it play through every area of the house effectively turning your house into a giant speaker!! We have a client with a 95 square house with the same setup and he uses this system for his regular parties and his house sounds amazing (even if I do say so myself). His outdoor area is about 300sq metres and it sounds unbelievable out there... Re: Another long project completed... 15Nov 02, 2007 1:04 pm I'll need to check our equipement and let you know when we meet up to chat about requirements. Can always upgrade.... ![]() Re: Another long project completed... 16Nov 02, 2007 1:07 pm You should come over and check out this install!

Computer sucks in all your music and you can select whatever you want wherever you want. And costs a few $$$ obviously.
So glad I live in a small house, i'd get too confused otherwise. Re: Another long project completed... 20Nov 03, 2007 12:25 am It certainly does not take long to count the speakers up.
I have 8 in my place - 2 x Dalis' as mains for the stereo, 4 in the ceiling in the upstairs section and 2 outside for the entertaining area - and I don't even have a home theatre system - but I do like my music. Nice setup fellas and happy bday Rodders. If i was a movie buff I'd do the same.
