Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Jul 05, 2010 8:38 pm We are in the process of doing up the outside area and one of the areas we are looking into is installing speakers outside. My questions are: 1) Is an outdoor sound system a waste of money? 2) Should an outdoor sound system run independently of a sound system inside? We have a 'pool room' currently an outdoor shed that will be made over where we could station the 'source' of the sound 3) What things should I consider in choosing an outdoor sound system? 4) Has anyone got any good recommendations of a sound system? 5) Are there any special regs or standards that apply to outdoor sound systems? I know there are some rules around outdoor lighting ... Thanks in advance Re: Outdoor sound system 2Jul 06, 2010 10:45 am Q1) Is an outdoor sound system a waste of money? A1) No. Q2) Should an outdoor sound system run independently of a sound system inside? We have a 'pool room' currently an outdoor shed that will be made over where we could station the 'source' of the sound A2) The more independent the system, the more it can operate with influencing or being influenced by other systems (their sources, controlling it, etc.). The negative is needing more equipment. Q3) What things should I consider in choosing an outdoor sound system? A3) That it is of a good enough quality, and that the speakers are designed to be installed outside (they can tolerate more extremes of temperature and moisture). Q4) Has anyone got any good recommendations of a sound system? A4) So many the choose from. I like Paradigm speakers, both outdoor and In-ceiling, and I like Marantz electronics (amps, sources), but I also like others too... Q5) Are there any special regs or standards that apply to outdoor sound systems? I know there are some rules around outdoor lighting ... A5) No - it's more about common sense in how/when you use it (ie. you make any loud noises in your backyard long into the night and your neighbours will likely complain...).
