As far as what it sounds like - perhaps you should read some reviews: http://www.ecoustics.com Re: A/V reciever suggestions-4 ohm speakers 3Jun 06, 2010 2:00 pm Hi there, 4K is a pretty good budget, but you don't need to spend that to get great sound. And that budget brings you into the realm of components. In terms of receivers, you would not go wrong with Harmon Kardon, Onkyo, Marantz, Denon or even some of the new Pioneer series is nice. I think that Rodda could help you with some or all of these Otherwise, with the reasonable state of the Aussie dollar, why not check out Emotiva in the USA. They are a factory direct distributor of high quality audio products. For your money, you could purchase a UMC-1 Pre-amp / 7.1 processor ($699), an XPA 5 5 x 300W amplifier ($799), a UPA-2 2 channel x 185W per ch for rear surrounds ($299) and then add a high quality reference CD player (ERC-1) for $399. That would add up to $2100US, plus allow about $150 per piece for Fedex delivery. So, you could have a killer system for less than the price of a receiver. They also sell a very good quality bipole / Dipole surround speaker ERD-1 ($349 per pair). I have ordered a fair bit of gear from them and have been thrilled with the quality. 5 year warranty on everything. If you really want to lash out, I would go for 3 x XPA-1 mono amps which run at 1000W each at 4 Ohms (and that's conservative). That would run you 3K plus your processor plus freight so just over 4K but untouchable for power and headroom compared to ANY receiver on the market. PM if you would like further details. Greg.
