Hi All,
Currently investigating different options for a 5.1 setup in my living room as well as a stereo setup for my alfresco and bedroom.
I am interested in installing some in-wall/on wall speakers for the front left, right and centre speakers and possibly some in-ceilings for the rears in the living room, some in-ceilings or in-walls for the bedroom and in-ceilings for the alfresco.
Investigation so far suggests that there are a number of options however in-wall/ceiling performance can be poor due to lack of "back box" for these speakers. Also, they can tend to bleed sound into surrounding areas and may not be the most neighbourly option. The majority of the speakers I have seen so far do not have a back box. I have however seen a few options with a back box, however they seem to be the exception rather than the rule.
I have not auditioned any speakers yet, although for this type of speaker I believe this can be difficult because often in showrooms they are built into boxes that may not truly reflect how they'd be mounted in one's own house.
So far I have seen/but not listened to the Jensen from JB HiFi which have the EHT range without back box and the Elite range with back box.
I gather from the Selby website that they have a number of different options including Krix who have an option with a back box.
I have also come across a product from Axiom Audio. They sell direct from O/S and have a range of in-wall/on-wall speakers.
Another brand I have seen are Studio Acoustics, but don't have much info on these.
Does anyone have any experience with these types of speakers or know any other options? I would prefer speakers with a back box as my research suggests that they have better sound performance and last longer as they do not get dust etc in the working parts.
Has anyone installed these speakers? How is the quality? Did they have a back box or did you make your own?
As always, I have to work within a budget and am hoping to get the living room setup for under $2K including the subwoofer which will be floor standing.
Thanks,
