Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 May 26, 2010 10:54 pm Hi Guys, Just wondering if anyone has quotes/prices from builders/external source to lay cat6 ethernet cables around the home. I am looking at having 12 points which goes back to the patch panel and then out to the switch which then connects the ADSL2+ router. Do builders charge per point or is it charged for cable length installed ? I am building with Bu7b@nk and would like to know if anyone has quotes arrangedfor upgrade from Bu7b@nk or from an outside source. Also if I need to arrange this from outside source, then will my builder allow this during the framing stage ? Any help with the above would be much appreciated. Thanks.... 26/2 - Sales 23/3 - Colours 31/3 - Tender 14/4 - Contract 7/5 - Taps 12/6 - Site start 15/6 - Slab 27/6 - Frame 1/8 - Lockup/Fixing 29/9 - PCI 25/10 - Handover Re: Charges to lay Ethernet cable to future proof home (Bu7b 2May 26, 2010 11:43 pm If you do a search you'll find a few threads about this. It's generally charged per run of cable. each run is 1 cable and 2 points (one at each end) and I highly doubt they will charge extra / less for more or less cable. ---------------------------------------- Building the PD Lisbon 24 http://www.porterdavis.com.au/#homeviewer/lisbon/24 Blog of our progress. http://lisbon24.blogspot.com/ Homeone build thread https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=28665 Re: Charges to lay Ethernet cable to future proof home (Bu7b 3May 27, 2010 7:18 am worth getting quotes from the builders people and third party contractors.. ask them to supply their ACMA rego number (and who they are registered with) and look them up also ask them as many questions if they provide you with good info and sound like they know what they are doing then make a choice... if anyone is telling you their Austel Licence number run away run away fast..means they havn't up graded to the propper Licence and are unaware of newer technologies oh yeah as for price range anything from $90- $140/ run as posted above for a new build is reasonable depending on how many runs you get done it gets cheaper/ run so thus fore more cost effective to run more cables... IMEO the following is purely my personal opinion... if the cablers/ sparky are only offering you Hills hub or Clipsal star serve products.. choose wisely they are overly exepensive and lacking upgradeability (due tro cabinet size) and also if you don't need a 19" rack (industry standard) there are other offerings which do the same job. there are 10" racks which ar the just larger then a cask of wine which look alot better then a Microwave (sized) box sitting on your wall that is under half filled and not going to be fully utilized. also people don't always need to have fully managed switches and enterprise level servers running.. It’s because the labels on the ports are all wrongly positioned by the builder hence it confuses me. 2 1385 Unless there were unforeseeable issues with the site, I dont think you should have to pay for contractors errors or poor planning.
