Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 May 19, 2010 8:40 am Hi guys, I was just wondering if getting a home theater from the US be any good.I am in the US now for a vacation and found amazing deals on bose home theaters.I checked the price online in Australia, and found they were almost 2 and a half time more expensive. The hic cup is the guys from Bose said that they wouldnt give an international warranty and if anything went wrong I would need to ship all the way back here and get it serviced. What do you guys think about this? Can American electronics work in Australia without problem and also would it be a safe bet? Re: Home theater from USA,any good? 3May 20, 2010 3:13 am The power difference would be your problem if you could try to have a home theater from USA. You better check some other systems first before you decide. However, as many people say that we can buy better stuffs from US but I definitely disagree with this.
Re: Home theater from USA,any good? 4May 20, 2010 9:50 am Thanks guys.I wrote to the Bose people in Australia, and this is what they said -"It could be as simple as changing the power pack or it may need to be done via service, the only way to know is to look at the power pack that comes with the system once you have purchased it. Once the power pack and or the service has been done you will not require a step down converter. Keep in mind that the DVD playback may be restricted to the US region, if this is the case the unit will have to serviced at your expense. Also that the tuner spacing for the radio will be different to Australia, you will not be able to pick up radio stations in Australia". Now am unable to decide whether this means that if i add a Dvd/blue ray player to this system the problem would be solved or not>i dont hear the radio anyway,so that shouldnt be a proble.Whats your take on this??? Re: Home theater from USA,any good? 5May 20, 2010 11:49 am People, please be warned: If you decide to buy a Bose Lifestyle system you will be constraining yourself to a system with very limited capacity to connect other devices (sources, displays) to it, and to a system that is really under powered and who's performance does not live up to it's price... Re: Home theater from USA,any good? 6May 20, 2010 10:02 pm Is that so Rodda??People here in the US were quiet pushy towards Bose systems whenever we went to check out home theater systems. Do you reckon its better to go for different brand speakers, amplifiers ,etc than sticking to one brand? The problem being,we have no clue what to go for.Have been looking around and there is no one specific brand people prefer, making it difficult to make up your mind. Also living in the country side,it makes it all the more difficult to check the different brands as you need to travel to the bigger towns over the weekends or to Melbourne. Re: Home theater from USA,any good? 7May 20, 2010 11:20 pm Rodda is right. Component systems are the way to go. "Lifestyle" systems are ok if you just want simple plug and play, however if you are even semi-serious about your system then the ability to pick and choose components and have an easy upgrade path is definitely the way to go. You can do a lot better than Bose. Re: Home theater from USA,any good? 9Jun 06, 2010 10:10 pm Hi there, as someone who has owned Bose in the past, moving to a higher quality seperates package was like chalk and cheese. I am a real fan of Emotiva audio, based in Tennesee in the USA. They do factory direct pricing. Like most equipment, it is China made but I could not be happier and the prices are spot on. 5 year warranty on everything and it's built like a tank! I only just recommended to someone else today. For a fantastic component rack, look at the XPA5 amp, UPA2 amp, UMC-1 processor and an ERC-1 Reference CD player. They are just about to release an external quality DA Converter but you could also look at the USP-1 analogue pre-amp at only $399. They take Paypal and will ship very reasonably via Fedex within a week. They also sell a range of speakers. I have two pairs of the ERD-1 dipole / bipole speakers for rear and side surrounds and they sound great. Very easy to mount as well. Best of luck in your search. Bang for buck Emotiva is hard to go past and they are set for 240Volt 50Hz at the factory. No messy transformers or changing power supplies. Cheers Greg 9 24789 Thank you.
