Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 May 03, 2010 7:51 am Hi Guys, I have been doing a lot of reading regarding front door security cameras and their distribution to TV’s around the house. I trolled through the following topics but with my female brain didn’t quite understand it all. viewtopic.php?f=34&t=28375&hilit=security+camera viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4991&hilit=security+camera So what I want to do is the same as the first topic, which is place a security camera at the front door, and with my family room right at the back of the house, I can put it on channel 56 and see who is there. So I understand the following (based on a AV cable system). Buy a cheap camera which has the yellow, red & white outputs, run this into a RF modulator and select channel, this will then create an additional channel into the RF system and I just search it on the TV and that’s it. So I need power to connect it and that’s it? My confusion was with people saying they ran the security camera on Cat 6 cable, the house is currently framed, roof on and bricks starting shortly, so we will be roughing in the data stuff shortly and if this can be done over Cat 6, how would the system work? Could somebody please recommend the type of modulator and camera I need for the system (AV cable), or is there a better option? Your help so far on other matters such as alfresco speakers etc has been great and we have gone with recommendations so hopefully someone can help on this one. Thanks Mel =) Re: Front Door Security Camera streamed on TV's 2May 03, 2010 8:02 am that is an IP camera and works over your home network.. much the same as the other option just more geekier... for a front door camera I would use a modualted one but for a 'security camera I would use IP ones Kodiak Data Cabling onFaceBook Consult*, Design and Installation Data, TV, Home Theatre/ AV Cabling, Multi Room Audio, IP CCTV and Door Intercoms Ask for a Quote. *DIY DATA Cabling Is Ilegal Re: Front Door Security Camera streamed on TV's 3May 03, 2010 9:17 am Since you want to view the image on your TV's the simplest method would be to use an analog camera and a cheap RF Video modulator. Bosch have a reasonable range of cameras http://products.boschsecurity.com.au/en ... eac308357b Modulators you can pick up around the traps. DS Electronics have them for around $40.00ea http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.store ... egodKXCY_g You should be able to get the camera from them as well. I'm interested Basically for my set up I would use IP cameras as part of the my security system have these come back to a central Home server that records the images .. and for a front door camera i would use one that goes down Co-ax to a modulator then i can send that over my RG6 to any tv and it comes up as a channel on any tv but with a "door bell" in a central spot so you can at any time see who is at your front door before you either go answer the door or ignore them.... Of course, if a car drove past then the car noise was amplified too and sometime would drown out their voices. But, in saying that, it did what I wanted at the time and was really cheap and I just ran the cable through the window frame to the interior, down beside the architrave and to the TV. All up cost was around $30-40, sorry can't think of the exact amount but didn't break the bank!! LOL With the new house I'm looking at a system that will take a photo of the person pressing the doorbell and when you arrive home, it's a simple matter of checking the stored photos. Some even have remote door unlocking so you don't have to leave your armchair to check, then disarm the front door/gate/etc. Re: Front Door Security Camera streamed on TV's 6May 14, 2010 8:03 am Thanks guys!! Interesting perspectives, went the cheapest way out, bought a modulator from DSE for $40 and a cheap IR camera with audio and video from eBay for $30, and the system will work wonders on every TV in the house for $70. Doesnt record unfortunately, but atleast know who is there to save the other half getting off his arse while down the back of the house in the living room.. Thanks once again Update from me!
