Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Apr 07, 2010 12:49 pm Hi Guys Sorry, another wiring assistance request. I am shortly starting a reno (Dev Consent just received) and need a little advice on wiring. I attach a copy of the room plan below. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The bedroom on the top left is used as an office and the HT gear will be placed on the wall in the lounge on the bottom right of the plan. It is a single storey bungalow with obviously good roof access. I will not be installing a projector as alas, I just can't site the projector anywhere suitable, ie ceilings too high, rear wall 8m away and too tricky to insert into furniture around room. So, large tv and Hifi and HT only. I currently run the following. BluRay player, HDDVD player, Fox IQ2, Yamaha 3900 reciever. Def Tech 5.1 surround sound, dual subwoofers. Laptop and ext hDD connected via devilsound DAC to my receiver to play uncompressed digital music in best quality possible. I use iTunes and an iPhone currently as a remote control for the music. (My internet and wireless router is currently in the bedroom/office top left of plan and the signal is flakey at the other end of the house hence the need to improve this. I would like wiring to do the following things: 1.Install NAS in office/bedroom and have wired cable to play video/music stored on NAS (in bedroom top left) on the TV or receiver in lounge other end of house. I will buy a media player to suit as needed. 2. Speaker cable to allow second source of music in the lounge located in the middle at the centre top of the plan. Driven by Yamaha 3900 located in main lounge bottom right of plan. 3. Install foxtel points for IQ2 in new lounge, bottom right of plan 4. 2 x telephone points in new lounge, bottom right. One for Fox IQ2 on TV wall and other tba 5. Ethernet cable from NAS to new lounge bottom right for wired internet as needed. This allows me to extend the wireless internet range (by adding an airport express say) or connecting a laptop by ethernet so it is not relying on a weak wireless signal. Like everyone I also want to try and guard against immediate redundancy. I love my gadgets and who knows what may appear in my HT cabinet in the future I will store music, video clips, downloaded tv shows on the NAS and play on the tv. BluRays and HDDVD's I will no doubt just use the original disc. Having read through some old links I note the following comments given kindly by Pugs "minimum spec for Bedrooms is 2 x Cat6 for Network/ Phone and 1 x RG6 for TV, for Main TV areas 4 x Cat6 and 2 x RG6 for an office minimum is 4 x Cat6 all terminated back to the one point" Is this suitable for my needs, any other advice on what to install ? I appreciate your patience and help. Cheers holo Re: Help needed on wiring proposals please 3Apr 09, 2010 5:32 pm Thats all pretty standard. But why not sit there thinking if you ever think you'll get something else put something in extra. Or why not just leave some draw wires in each locatino for easy access later? Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7170 i had the my concreters concrete right up to the fence. I have pits all along my path, so the water tends to drain away from the house and into the pits. There's only one… 7 12785 All 3 items listed are defects and are of concern. Please seek qualified independent inspector and/or legal advice for your state. 1 8230 |
