Hey Matt, I;ve been speaking with Rod: re set up of our theatre room when we build our house. He advised that i chat with you regarding the soundproofing. In other threads, you advised someone to PM you regarding costs of sound proofing for a single story. Do you know of a roll out option that in corporates batt material and a metal sheeting as well inthe one thing? Hubby's work is using it to sound proof some areas and was not sure what else is available. I am passionate about my music/movies so i want to get it right. Love to get your feedback. PM me if you don't want to post it on the thread. I caught that one before it all disappeared. Re: Soundproofing a Room? 5Aug 31, 2007 11:11 am Phoenix,
here is a link to that thread: http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=3048 You need to figure out what walls you want to soundproof and work out the height x the width to get the coverage that you need. ie. wall height of 2.4 meters (8 foot celiing) times 6 metre long wall (2.4 x 6 = 14.40metres square) means you would need approximately 4 bags. You also need to know what width your studs are apart as they come in 2 different widths. I recommend the R2.5 with at least 1 layer of the 10mm soundcheck plaster. You can go with double plaster thickness and even stand-off brackets for the plaster but it costs a lot more obviously. This is a good compromise between price and performance IMO. I'm quite encouraged by the level of passion, as you say, that you have for your music and movies. It sounds like we are very much on the same page (I have nearly 600 DVDs in my collection, every one I've watched more than once). I also own a small collection of Super Audio CDs and DVD-Audio discs to complement my 300+ CD collection. Everything from Diana Krall and Sarah McLaughlan to Metallica and Napalm Death (metal fan from way back). It must be said that I get plenty of use from my AV system. Re: Soundproofing a Room? 7Aug 31, 2007 11:11 am Adrian B The thread will be back soon..... Just got to make some adjustments huh? You may want to change the name of this thread to something closer to the content. Matt I have reverted to username - mattwalker Carlisle Homes - Grande 43 My building experience is here: http://www.ourgrandeplan.blogspot.com Re: Soundproofing a Room? 10Aug 31, 2007 11:26 am Adrian,
This deserves a thread of its own. It is nothing to do with the other thread title. Re: Soundproofing a Room? 13Aug 31, 2007 11:43 am Hey 3xb, what about Soundproofing a Room?
Your choice since that's the inital question. I didn't know that you could change the title once created... Still learning..... Thanks Re: Soundproofing a Room? 14Aug 31, 2007 11:45 am Done.
I think only the original poster can change it or of course a moderator. Re: Soundproofing a Room? 15Aug 31, 2007 1:40 pm Hey Matt, does soundproofing only come in batts and sheets of plaster. If we didn't want to go thicker on the plaster, can we just use the batts? How much do they cost? Re: Soundproofing a Room? 16Aug 31, 2007 1:47 pm **Phoenix** Hey Matt, does soundproofing only come in batts and sheets of plaster. If we didn't want to go thicker on the plaster, can we just use the batts? How much do they cost? The batts go on the inside of the wall and the plaster takes the place of the original plaster. Make sense? See my post above for the costs. We used batts in our last place for soundproofing. We are also looking at a product from Baron which consists of either wool or fibreglass with a layer of perforated aluminium on it - we want to check out the soundproofing specs of all options before proceeding. At the end of the day we want to get the best quality product at the best price. Thanks for the info on Rockwool Steve, i'll look into it too.. Anyway, thanks for the info guys. I'll keep in touch and will contact you(Matt) or Rod to discuss options as soon as appropriate. Re: Soundproofing a Room? 19Sep 02, 2007 11:34 am I misunderstood this question....
Audio Visual Dreams **Phoenix** Hey Matt, does soundproofing only come in batts and sheets of plaster. If we didn't want to go thicker on the plaster, can we just use the batts? How much do they cost? I read it the wrong way obviously...No offence intended. There are other options out there, but as i said earlier this, in my opinion, is the best value for money option. We are looking forward to catching up for a chat to work out some options. Can't wait tocrank up the sound in the new theatre.
