What is the little 9" Widescreen LCD for?? Is that a touchscreen remote or something??? McReidy, It was a secondary display for my Windows XP Media Centre machine. It meant I could do other things whilst watching a movie, ie look up an actor or make changes etc. It was on a slide out mechanism that was located behind a door. Quote: Just out of interest...shouldn't there be a "once a week" option on your poll Yep - Q1 would be better if I'd asked - 1 or less per week. emijay said Quote: Not enough to justify spending thousands and thousands emijay - Part of the reason I asked. Also to see how much time people spent - chilling in front of a movie. Matt said Quote: I like watching movies and I like cinemas. One would hope so Steve Re: How many movies per week 25Aug 29, 2007 8:42 pm My husband and I don't watch a lot of movies and not a huge amount of television generally. We are not having a dedicated theatre room but a rumpus room in which we'll eventually put a projector - not a very expensive one because it won't get a huge amount of use.
It will be fun for the kids to use the playstation on the big screen sometimes and watch their movies. I don't want it to be a huge feature that is regularly used because I prefer to limit the amount of time they spend in front of the television, not encourage it. While we were building we lived at my Mum's house. She had Foxtel and the kids would have watched TV until their eyeballs fell out if I let them. We have just purchased a second television for the rumpus room, it's the first time we've even had 2 tvs. Re: How many movies per week 26Aug 29, 2007 9:55 pm stonecutter1309 Law18 - any idea on how you're going to do a "hidden" system? I've seen a few ideas - the cabinet where the TV raises up with the push of the button. But the one I like best is the TV mirror : http://www.dinendi.com/mirror-tv-kit/ Not sure how much they'd be here in Oz though. Stonecutter tv mirror looks good. I dont know really how Im going to hide everything if I only I had lots of money. I just dont like having things like the tv as the main feature of a room or the fridge in the kitchen etc. I love how Matts room has been done, speakers hidden etc. I have also seen a picture of a plasma/lcd screen that comes out of the ceiling not real practical for a theatre room as tv to high probably really good for a bedroom. In my new house I am lucky enough to have a lounge room, family room and a dedicated theatre room. I love the fact that my wife and I can go to the "cinema"whenever we like without the need for a babysitter. Matt Love it matt. Clean cut simplistic and with the way you put the tv in the wall and the cut out below it looks balaced, not just a great big tv hanging or leaning on a wall. I also think its great that you and your wife can go to the movies often (at home), I hope you pay for the popcorn! I see the front speakers are in the ceiling, what speakers do you or did you have at the back of the room? Do you need to buy speakers specifically made for in wall? Re: How many movies per week 28Aug 30, 2007 11:08 am Matt's installation pictured here, as well as his new one, has 4 in-ceiling speakers for the surrounds as well (2 side surrounds and 2 rear/centre surrounds).
I myself am running 7 In-wall speakers in total - 4 at the front (used like the 4 in Matt's picture - 2 front centres) and 3 surrounds (2 side surrounds with just the 1 rear centre). In-wall and In-ceiling speakers are made specifically to do/be just that. You can pay anything from $100 to $4000 a pair for In-walls, my own being in the bottom half of that range. Some companies go to some real, real effort to make their In-walls sound every bit as good as their traditional free-standing speakers, so if you couple that level of performance with the massive +WAF you get with going for such 'hidden' speakers you end up with an excellent option for any planned sound system. Thanks for the info Rodda I'm trying to learn as much as I can so that we can have the best of both worlds in our house. My husband can have his noise, surround sound for his movies and I can have the no clutter or speakers hanging off the wall. It still wont be a designated home theatre as he is wanting a pool table in the rumpus so it will be in the open living area. Also if there is no back wall directly behind the couches and all speakers go in the ceiling is this a bad thing. We have a small drop down in the ceiling height above the kitchen benches that would be over 6 metres behind the couches is this a better option? Sorry I dont understand the +WAF thingy though. P.S Dont tell my husband I'm asking these questions he'll think he has won and I would not want that Re: How many movies per week 30Aug 31, 2007 7:13 am Hi Law.
We've done plenty of installs in rooms with no back wall (open to another area), in fact Matt's pictured there also had an open back (well, two thirds of the back was open). Ceiling speakers for surrounds are used very often, and is one of the better, and certainly neater options for a room with an open back. WAF stands for Wife Acceptance Factor, and is very important when it comes to purchasing anything for the home (as I'm sure you are well aware of), especially audio visual components. Therefore, something that has positive (+)WAF is a very good thing for us guys . Re: How many movies per week 31Aug 31, 2007 10:15 am Hey Matt, I;ve been speaking with Rod: re set up of our theatre room when we build our house. He advised that i chat with you regarding the soundproofing. In other threads, you advised someone to PM you regarding costs of sound proofing for a single story. Do you know of a roll out option that in corporates batt material and a metal sheeting as well inthe one thing? Hubby's work is using it to sound proof some areas and was not sure what else is available.
I am passionate about my music/movies so i want to get it right. Love to get your feedback. PM me if you don't want to post it on the thread.
