Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Mar 04, 2010 11:01 pm Please post your home network photos. Any photos will do, I want to get ideas, I am thinking of cabling everything back to a small linen cupboard upstairs. The only problem I have is cooling and ventilation. I have done plenty of networking cabling in the past, but only in a commercial environment, so for my house I am open to all tips and advice! Also have a media centre and bravia TV with ethernet plugged into the network as well. I am using a 4 port wireless ADSL modem at present, which does the job, I will need to get another switch if I want to patch any more of the ports. It is all runs back to my garage as I have a small area with a few shelves. Even for a 802.11g wireless access point it still provides coverage over my entire 24sq home with devices like an ipod touch which has a pretty limited wireless antenna. Rather than having a server or NAS, I instead use a media centre running Win7 to run my home theatre projector, it happily stores all of my recorded TV while serving to the Bravia TV and playing back through the projector. These then connect to our 24 port thingy ( 10 bucks 2nd hand and works a treat) and then to wireless/lan modem router and voip phone etc except one with connects through a splitter to the phone line to act as an extension for the POS phoneline. yes we could have a neat little single wall unit but this is hidden behind a small 3 shelf unit so who cares. Photo is from last year before I cleaned up the cables. IcyBox NAs ... 2 x 500Gb drives in RAID1 for documents etc QNap TS209II NAS ... 2 x 1.5Tb drives also in RAID1 for Movies and other media Netgear 1Gb switch ... am only running 6 points as that's all I need at the moment. Spare PC ... doesn't everyone have one? On the wall is the Hills Home security box and in the right hand corner is a thermostat which switches the exhaust fan on when things get too hot in there.
