But I reckon star trek or star wars fans will love it as is. Re: Check this home theatre out! 3Aug 21, 2007 11:20 pm I am already wracking my brain working out how to replicate this effect....
I like it. Re: Check this home theatre out! 4Sep 08, 2007 3:04 pm That doesn't look like a Plasma/LCD TV to me. Was there a projector hidden inside the layers of ceiling boards?? Re: Check this home theatre out! 5Sep 08, 2007 3:33 pm Looks fantastic….. But you couldn’t have the ceiling effect lights on while watching the big screen. Too distracting!
I really like the simplicity of the room, in this case the “less is best” theme really looks great! I would say they spent more money on the ceiling effect than the rest of the room. I also think it pulls the ceiling down, to get away with this type of effect you need higher ceilings. There are also LED options that look similar. There is a seller on e-bay that sells the kits and who will custom make it for your room. But i have a friend who can get me a set up fairly cheaply. We are not after the wavy effect though , just the flat roof with the fibre optics and colour wheel controller. Some even come with a remote control. Not sure if they come with a dimmer or not for both dramatic and subtle effects? If anyone is interested in this type of feature, look up e-bay i think they started around $300.
There is a 2 story Carlisle home in the Camden Green estate in Cranbourne nth with a pretty good theatre in it. The double glass doors open up on a sensor (like at the shopping centres) and the lights dim automatically, the projection system fires up and the window coverings are drawn. All you need is the automated pop corn maker and a mini bar and i know that i'd be in movie heaven. Re: Check this home theatre out! 8Sep 09, 2007 2:57 pm Hi Folks. Here's one Matt and I were completing yesterday (Matt's in the white shirt, I'm in the black, and Joe the customer in the red). It just needs some final finishing touches, and the recliners which are due in a couple of days....:

A Lot!! The actual gear going into the room would only be around $20,000 retail (much cheaper through us of course!!). This client did want the best for his budget and we always aim to please. This would be a higher end setup for the average user. It consists of a 1080P projector, a 115" screen and a combination of high quality floor standing and in-ceiling speakers. It also has a really nice amp to help the speakers along. The room is 8 metres deep and 5.5 metres wide and is built with 1 purpose ... a dedicated home cinema. To give you an idea the carpet was $180 per sq metre without underlay or fitting. The walls and ceiling are a charcoal colour, the carpet maroon as are the pillars with gold cornice highlights through out. The room has dedicated heating and cooling and has double plaster with foam insulation on each surface. The rear step is 300mm off the normal floor and will have 2 rows of seating installed in the next few days. I'm more interested in the cost of the room setup minus the hardware. Carpet at $180sq is a bit of a surprise. Am interested in the rest of the setup cost, plastering, painting, raised floor, sconces etc. Re: Check this home theatre out! 12Sep 09, 2007 9:59 pm Pasey,
Do you have something specific in mind? Would be happy to talk to you in regards to your personal project. Must say that i love the room! To me it looks like a room to escape to. That is a true cinema experience. Where's the popcorn machine????
For $20K though, how come the client didn't want the projector hidden in the ceiling? It seems to stand out a bit that's all against the charcoal colour of the ceiling. Personal choice i suppose. Job well done!!! Love to see the finished photos with the chairs in. Love the Super Speedway DVD guys, who's idea was that? The client or yours. We have it too. Had to buy it out of the US though.... It sounds AWESOME cranked up loud doesn't it?!!!! Can't wait to catch up to chat about our theatre options..... Re: Check this home theatre out! 14Sep 10, 2007 7:50 am Hi Phoenix.
The retail value of the AV gear was around $20K, but what the customer ended up paying was a fair bit less than that.... The initial design for the raised middle section of the ceiling didn't have it quite as deep, and the customer was also very concerned about breaking up the gold cornice highlights (what it would look like), so it was agreed to simply put the projector on a bracket for now and then he would see how he felt about the way it looked versus cutting into his ceiling and partially hiding it... The Super Speedway DVD is mine . I first saw the US one on my dad's 4:3 screen and was all set to order the US version when they announced it was being released here in 16:9 (either 1.78:1 or 1.85:1, I can't remember exactly now). I bought the R4 16:9 version the day it was released (the exact same thing happened with the first G3 disk - nearly ordered the US version as soon as I saw it, then it was realeased here a week later. Notice the G306 tour t-shirt!). Re: Check this home theatre out! 15Sep 10, 2007 9:42 am Hey Rod, u r right, i missed the T'shirt. Thought that type of DVD might be up your alley. Great job, will be in touch. Re: Check this home theatre out! 16Sep 10, 2007 9:26 pm Hi guys,
We created a separate topic about home theatre and realised that there were topics like this where we can just add our questions. What budget should we be looking at if our home theatre room is around 4.5x5 metres and we want a projector instead of plasma or LCD (as it cost more)? We were given an initial quote of $6K for a Yamaha package (for that kind of room size).
