I recently had Foxtel (SD) going directly into my LCD (via SCART) and the picture was reasonable.
Now I have the same Foxtel (SD) box going into my new Receiver and switching it onto HDMI to go into the same TV.
The picture is worse. Not so noticeably worse for general viewing of actual content, but it is obvious when viewing the text on the Foxtel TV Guide and Planner pages... noticeably fuzzy text and lacking in contrast (compared to the direct SCART input method).
The receiver is a Denon 790 (i believe it is trying to upscale the video to 1080i).
My first option is to swap out the cables from the Foxtel box to the receiver to see if the analogue video is losing quality along that path.
If that doesn't change things, I was thinking I might try to turn the upscaling 'off' on the receiver (if that is even possible) and let the TV do the resolution matching (which it could obviously handle when the Foxtel input came directly into the SCART).
Before I start swapping cables and playing around - does anyone have any other suggestions as to what might be going on and what things I should try.
Would Foxtel HD make a difference ? I am considering upgrading anyway.
Thanks.
