Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Aug 21, 2007 11:23 am Hello all,
I wasn't aware (though I feel I should have been) that soundproofing was available for an extra charge through our builder. As we are at frame stage now and moving quickly, I think it would A: slow down the process and B: incur an extra charge to ask for it now. I'm sending an email to my admin to enquire about it, but does anyone out there know if it would be worthwhile to purchase my own sound proofing material and then perhaps coax my Site Supervisor into having it installed? Pehaps with a couple slabs and an Apple Pie? Re: Soundproofing the Theatre Room 2Aug 21, 2007 11:28 am Check out Quietzone by Boral plasterboard and Insulations solutions..

580mm Soundscreen r2.5 will cost around $50 per bag. Each bag covers about 4sq metres. A room of about 7metres x 4 metres will cost around $300 extra for internals walls in soundcheck. PM if you want details on where to get the soundproofing a few $$$ cheaper. Check out this PDF... http://www.gyprock.com.au/Gyprock/Content/Home_Cinema.pdf.... We had sound sound proof insulation done throughout the house & sound check plaster put in the media room as well. But when we found out they weren't going to do between the floors, we had a quick chat with our site supervisor who made the comment that if someone came in & put it in before the ceiling plaster went up the next day, they wouldn't take it out. So guess what we did that evening ![]() It does make a difference...so if you or your builder can put it in, now (of course) is the time to do it. The distance in the house is giving the kids an added excuse for not hearing me (selective deafness), I wouldn't want to add to it with too much soundproofing! We have an intercom which is great for reminders to get out of bed (NOW), get dressed etc. You'd definitely need one with lots of soundproofing in the house. Re: Soundproofing the Theatre Room 8Aug 21, 2007 9:45 pm Thanks for the advice and the discussion.
Here's where we stand. Spoke to my Admin. about the situation today and she suggested that if my pre-wiring home theater guy can install sound proofing material when he's doing the wiring, that would be fine with my site supervisor. I have a lunch meeting with said home theater guy on Thursday, so I will find out then. I have a feeling that won't be an issue as he's currently doing a friends house and I'm pretty sure he's doing some for them on their home theater. Bottom line is we'll be getting this done one way or the other. Matt, thanks for the link and the advice. I'll certainly PM you if I need to acquire this material on my own. Cheers, B&C-Bear Re: Soundproofing the Theatre Room 9Aug 21, 2007 9:50 pm No Problem!!
