Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation Re: Is outdoor antenna needed for local HD channels? 8Feb 16, 2010 8:20 pm I've asked about this where I work many times (I work for the company that has supplied all the broadcast antennas for Australias digital roll out) and the engineers are all of the opinion that there is no special requirement for cable, connectors or antennas for receiving digital TV - in fact they say that the marketing spin on this is pure BS. In most cases whatever worked for analogue reception will work for digital reception. Occasionally if you have a weak signal you may get an intermittent loss of picture or no reception at all but I'd say in these cases analogue reception was probably not so hot to begin with. The fact that the majority of people have not needed to replace their old TV antenna or cable to receive digital TV shows that there is no special requirement for digital TV reception. I'm no expert on this which is why I've asked the people who are but if you need an outdoor antenna for reception then pretty much any installer in the phone book will supply what you need. For me personally I can recieve all channels on 30 year old rabits ears, Tandy scoop purchase high gain antenna or a regular outdoor antenna.
