Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Jan 28, 2010 4:35 pm We are at a very early stage of design with our house and I'm figuring out the best way to arrange the home theatre room. At the moment the room size is about 4.5m x 6m, and the position in the house is as shown here: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ (see my sig for the thread with the first floor plan). I'm after ideas on a few things: * What side should have the TV / projector screen - I'm thinking the north. * What to do about storage (for CDs/DVDs etc and the AV gear - I'm thinking have built-ins along the south wall. Another option would be a cupboard at the southern end of the eastern wall - doors parallel to the current wall (i.e. the cupboard itself is in the 'void' space) * There currently isn't a window - maybe there should be one on the courtyard side (so the room could be used as a hobby room or possible spare bedroom in future. * Should I have a bar/kitchenette at the back (south wall) as well? We will be needing a fair bit of wine storage too. In the "hall" from the main hallway to the HT, I'm thinking of making the north part of it a "second laundry" (as you can see the "main laundry" is a 0.7m by 2.5m cupboard on the left of the main hall) - this second laundry could be about the same size and contain the above mentioned kitchenette (or at the very least the bar fridge and chest freezer) note I don't know what sort of gear we will have - that's still to be decided whether we will use our current TV (42"), a newer one or a projector! One thing that is for sure is that it will be the location for the PS3 with Guitar Hero (with drums), Wii Fit (with balance board) - things that take a bit of space. Just thought I'd mention it as this may affect the preferred dimensions/layout. Ideas? The gear won't be being purchased for a while after that. The room will initially have open walls (so I can run the speaker wire, etc. myself at my own pace after moving in. I'm just after ideas as to how the room could be laid out. The point about cooling is a good one, perhaps I could have the AV rack at the bottom left corner with a vent through the wall to the courtyard? The problem being that since the vents would (more or less) face the outdoor world, it may let insects and so on in to the cabinet... [edit: perhaps vent to the garage would be better?] As far as gear goes, at the moment I have a Panasonic 42" plasma, Yamaha RX-V450 receiver, and Bose Acoustimass 5 sub and cube speakers. I'll probably use this gear in the lounge room in the new house, since I already have the gear and the lounge will be completed when we move in (whereas the HT will be a work in progress for a while!). This would be especially true for the speakers since they are small and that would be more suited to the lounge room (where we would want something less visible). We also have a PS3 and Wii which will probably start in the lounge and then be relocated to the HT when done (although to be honest, they will probably be superceded by then!) I actually want to have a whole of house AV system allowing me to play media stored on my NAS anywhere in the house (any TV) and a similar interface on any of them - also integrate things like external cameras (the kitchen is a fair way from the front door, for example - would be nice to flick a channel and see who was at the door) - but that's a whole other thread! The space between shower and sinks was too tight. I agree about the toilet location. So I have tried two other options: The lower one is… 3 6139 Possibly both depending on the sizing. Idea of working from the centre is that you dont have a 20mm thin tile at one end and a 400mm at the other end. A quick search on… 3 8417 You never have a fridge against wall as you’ve drawn.
