Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Jan 13, 2010 9:43 pm I am building a house in the coming months and want to get a home theatre installed in the living area - not in a specialised theatre room. I have a nice big TV but ideally I imagine some small speakers in the roof (flush) and above the lounge where we sit etc. I guess the audio system, sub woofer, blu ray etc too - I basically need the whole thing except for the TV. I don't want big bulky speaks (standing or jutting out of a wall) and my budget is up to $10k I guess. I have no idea where to start with getting a quote. I obviously want it done during the build - not after - but with so many companies out there i have no idea who to choose or what's a good system etc. I thought about Bose etc but they dont have Blu ray yet and they seem to be expensive. Can anyone recommend a business or point me in the right direction? Re: Recommended company in Sydney for home theatre installation 2Jan 14, 2010 8:12 am paulfe I thought about Bose etc but they dont have Blu ray yet and they seem to be expensive. You said it - Bose (Lifestyle systems) are very expensive for what you get and, with the exception of a cool remote, they are very feature-poor. They also have very limited connectivity and interconnectivity with other devices and sources, and really, really lack in what is the most important area (IMHO) - sound quality! Unless you have heaps of spare money and don't mind wasting it on a system that will impress (some of) your friends with it's name much more than it will with it's (poor) performance, don't ever by a Bose Lifestyle system... Re: Recommended company in Sydney for home theatre installation 3Jan 24, 2010 12:43 pm I would suggest going to Len Wallis Audio in Lane Cove. We went there a while ago to get some info on setting up a Sonos System and they were very helpful. Didn't end up using them though but my neighbours did and they have a great system set up. Re: Recommended company in Sydney for home theatre installation 5Jan 30, 2010 11:38 pm Hello there! We went to Len Wallis too (and took up about 2 hours of some poor saleman's time)! They have a great setup over there for testing out the systems. We listened to a NAD and Marantz amp with a couple of different sets of speakers. We could definietly hear the difference between the two amps (apparently the NAD is better (and of course, more expensive), but after walking out, Phil and I decided to go over to Clive Peeters again and listen to the Onyko amp again with the Jamo speakers. . . and to tell you the truth, they sounded pretty darned good. We just couldn't justify spending an extra $7000 or more on the Len Wallis set. (not that we actually had that much to spend anyway Phil ended up getting an Onkyo TX-SR707 amp, with Jamo speakers and 550W subwoofer for $3K from Harvey Norman and he's absolutely chuffed with it. We're not audiophiles, and the system we've got seems to be great for movies (and pretty darned good for music too, if you're not sat there listening to them switching between our system and the $10K system at Len Wallis). They're just normal speakers (a 5.1 system), which doesn't seem to be what you're looking for though. Not sure how much ceiling speakers set you back. Are you thinking of getting someone in to set them up for you? If you're even the slightest bit handy, would you think of doing it yourself? We put in our own speaker cables (behind the walls) before the gyprock went up. . . nothing to it really! We've also run speaker cables from behind the family room TV to the living room, dining room, master bed and alfresco ceilings to put some stereo speakers up. We're planning on mounting them ourselves when we eventually buy them. . . we're quite handy with the old gyprock saw now! And I must give Selby Acoustics a plug. . . we got our speaker cable from there, AND our TV brackets (about $60 from Selby, about $200 from Bunnings. . . ) http://www.selbyacoustics.com.au One thing that everyone here seems to agree on . . . if you like the sound of it, then buy it! Re: Recommended company in Sydney for home theatre installation 6Jan 31, 2010 12:51 am thanks for the detailed post. im not handy at all lol!! im looking at a set up with flsuh mounted speakers and multi room audio etc. i checked out the len wallis site and it seems they can accomodate my requirements - now i just need to find out if i can afford it - hehehehehe! I need to replace the worn mohair seal on my sliding window, but I can't get access to the end to slide the old one out & push the new one in. I could probably rip the old… 0 5175 Thanks Simon, I guess I'm no concerned with the volume of the noise rather that dead and hollow sound and feel that is associated with floating floors. But I'm not sure… 3 6110 |
