I believe this is very debateable.. I believe it all depends on the treatment and how hard you push them, personally I never listen at ear bleeding levels and generally my normal listening range would be between -30db to -15db. I know of many absolutely unbelievable setups which 20 to over 30 year old speakers are used which many have only changed the capacitors within them. Mine are already about 7 years old and they are all as good as new.. it’s the equipment that drive them and the sources that sends signals to them that are often replaced due to damage or upgraded. I plan for my speakers to last a lot longer than 10 years. I have seen many Klipsch Heritage line speakers that are around the same period with similar type wood cabinet and grill, and do they ever look stunning and sound amazing, speakers like LaScalas, Belles, Klipschorns, Cornwalls, etc etc.. amazing. I believe this is very debateable.. My floor standing Jamo's are about 12 years old and still sound good...and the Morduant-Short bookshelf speakers (thanks Rodda!) I'm sure will last at least that. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: $10,000 too much to spend on Home Cinema equipment? 25Jan 11, 2010 1:26 pm du73 Vundaful - thanks for sharing - they are very nice speakers indeed.. they do not look archaic at all, they look fantastic and very well kept.. Hehe our ones aren't quite as pristine as the ones in that picture - we don't have the stands and one of the speakers has a small chip on a corner of the wood. My Sound system is the most expensive part followed by the projector. This is our first home though so didn't go over the top.. I'm hoping next house I build (hopefully I'm earning double or triple what I earn now by then ) I'll put in a massive cinema and a massive pool in the backyard.. or maybe that's what I'll do when I win tattslotto! Re: $10,000 too much to spend on Home Cinema equipment? 30Jan 12, 2010 8:51 pm And the right amp/receiver to power them is just as important. Great speakers can sound sh*t if they arent being driven properly. They will last you forever but will sound crap, so do them justice and give them the power they deserve Re: $10,000 too much to spend on Home Cinema equipment? 31Jan 13, 2010 6:55 am scott_tanya And the right amp/receiver to power them is just as important. They will last you forever but will sound crap, so do them justice and give them the power they deserve absolutly agree.. just like that has been said above.. just another link in the chain.. but in the end its all about the speakers.. but you are right its no point having $10000 pair of main speakers and a $1000 avr driving them, thats like having a Ferrari and putting normal unleaded fuel in it.. it all counts,, every little bit you put in the system counts one way or another. I remember years back before I really got into Home Theatre and sound I used to think a cd player is a cd player just plays cd's and the player is not going to change the sound quality.. how wrong I was.. Re: $10,000 too much to spend on Home Cinema equipment? 32Jan 19, 2010 7:35 pm Your speakers are gorgeous Vundaful! So RETRO! Re: $10,000 too much to spend on Home Cinema equipment? 33Feb 09, 2010 4:09 pm I was planning on budgeting $20,000 for our home theatre setup when we build... so I don't think it's too much After 2 false starts, a year living overseas, two more world trips and 3 years of uncertainty we are now starting the build process again - hopefully for real this time! Re: $10,000 too much to spend on Home Cinema equipment? 34Feb 09, 2010 5:25 pm I have an old boxy TV I got from a friend a few years ago when they set up their home theatre. I didn't have a DVD player until a few days ago, when another friend gave me his old one for free. It looks pretty sitting there but it doesn't work, I think because the TV is too old. I also got given a set top box but I can't plug that in either (I couldn't have plugged them in at the same time anyway as there's only one set of "plugs"). I've actually been pretty happy with my TV as the screen is heaps bigger than the really old, tiny one I had. It's still only about 46cm though. When I first got it I sat on the couch and I thought it was too oversized for the room Oh, and speakers - what's wrong with the ones stuck on the front of the TV? My "theatre room" cost me $0 I'm going to have to get a digital tv soon, and should probably also get a dvd player at least. My friends will then at least think I'm approaching normal. It's still going in the family room though, where I can see it while I cook dinner! I'm actually building a house with a theatre room. My plan is that if I meet someone who has the means and motivation to create one, and he moves in with me (poor bugger!), then I'll probably have a rather lovely home theatre someday! I enjoy reading all about your theatre rooms though. You're welcome to invite me over for popcorn and a movie. I may spend it crushed into the back of the seat thinking that things are jumping out at me due to the massive screen, but I'll enjoy myself terribly! My tac-home-ter: Been in 8 months! Re: $10,000 too much to spend on Home Cinema equipment? 35Mar 01, 2010 7:30 pm i have spent the following to do my first home theatre (4m x 5m): $4500 - Denon AVR 2310 + Monitor Audio Bronze Reference 5.1 speakers + cables $3100 - Sanyo z700 projector + 120inch fixed frame screen $300 - Sony S560 BD player $1500 - heavy blockout curtains $300 - labour cost for pre wiring $550 - TV unit the result is like that( i know the front speakers are too close to side wall, they have been re-positioned and re-Audesseyed): Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ although the system is very entry level , i am loving it so much. so my experience is , as long as it does not affect your financial and family harmony, it is worth to spend a reasonable amount of money to suit your life style. i know a lot of people in HK spend far much more money for AV equip and put them all in a 2.5m x 3m family room with no soundproofing, very lucky here for those having a designated room to do all this by the way , this is the next thing i will buy: http://cgi.ebay.com.hk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... 5190b9465e so you never need to worry about the zoning of you BD or DVD Re: $10,000 too much to spend on Home Cinema equipment? 36Mar 01, 2010 8:02 pm room looks fantastic... you did a great job.. just shows what you can achieve for a great price...
