Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation Re: Help with home theatre layout 10Mar 11, 2010 4:58 pm Hi there, In a perfect world, a floor standing speaker is always going to give a better sound than an in-wall speaker. However, these are home theatres and not professional cinemas. We all have to contend with limited space, which will quite often play havoc with improperly positioned floor standing speakers. I will be using a 150 inch cinema scope screen, made of acoustically transparent material and mounting 3 x Klipsch 6504 THX Ultra II Certified speakers for the front soundstage. Sound quality from these speakers is awesome and they can be purchased out of the US for about $400 each plus shipping (not so much as they are light in weight). An added benefit of Klipsch speakers is that they are highly efficient, which means you can drive them with a smaller amplifier. Saves a bit of cash on that front. That way, all speakers are out of sight and behind the screen. Also has the benefit of tying the sound to the picture. Screen material is available from the USA. Cost me $249.00 for the material and about the same for postage. Important to get the material cut at a tilt to eliminate projector image problems (moire). Frame can be manufactured here by any picture framing company or it's a reasonably simple DIY. If you are going for floor standing speakers, I would suggest that you find some with front firing ports so that they can be positioned close to your front wall without sounding 'boomy'. It can be a real issue trying to sort out acoustics within a home theatre. There are lots of things that you can do to get it right but most of them are expensive! Best of luck with your build and please PM me if you need any brands etc. Regards Greg You never have a fridge against wall as you’ve drawn. The doors can’t open past 90 degrees and it’s difficult and maybe impossible to remove drawers 2 15583 Thanks for the suggestion. The space between shower and sinks was too tight. I agree about the toilet location. So I have tried two other options: The lower one is… 3 6118 Possibly both depending on the sizing.
