Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Nov 19, 2009 8:15 pm Hi, I am looking to hook up some car stero speakers I have ****** around to my mini stereo system I have sitting in my alfresco. The 4 individual speakers are 160watts 4ohms. The stereo is 60 watts with the speaker ports at the back of the unit rated at 6 - 16ohms Assuming I link the 4 speakers in two sets (2 speakers in series making the effective ohms 8 per set) Do I need to boost the 60watt power delivered by the stereo so that the 160watts the speakers push out good sound. Mario Re: Do I need an amplifier? 2Nov 20, 2009 7:59 am Hi Mario, I am a car audio enthusiast and I know that nearly all car audio manufacturers like to push up their wattage numbers as high as possible. RMS is the true wattage number you want to look at. I wouldn’t be surprised if you find those 160 watt speakers to be rated at 20-40 watt RMS. Likewise, with your mini stereo, find out that the RMS wattage is. Despite the wattage differences, you shouldn’t have problems with under-powering speakers as long as you have it at moderate listening levels. If you like it loud then you may need more power. Just make sure that it is wired up in series to deliver 8 ohms, wired up in parallel it will deliver 2 ohms and can damage the amplifier in the mini stereo. Thank you so much for the effort. We will use it to talk with builder. We also had idea of building duplex instead and seeking suggest ions. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=106744 11 13817 Hello It is good to have a planned bathroom reno to suit your budget and design, living for 10 years I think you need a bathtub 4 10352 Looking to start the journey of becoming an owner builder in SA.
