I'd like to do the same thing... my plan was to get a squeezebox duet http://www.logitech.com/en-au/speakers_audio/wireless_music_systems/devices/3817, a hdd (containing my mp3's) and mount it next to a multizone amp/multiple amps to allow one source at a time (multiple source to multiple zone would be nice but i think too expensive) to play through multiple speakers ie alfresco, bed 1, dining, living, kitchen etc. The system would be located in the Walk in Pantry... along with my networking gear What would be the recommendation for the amp and speakers (ceiling mounted)? I have a Denon 5.1 AV receiver and the speakers but that was intended to stay as a standalone for the HT. Re: Alfresco Speakers 43Jun 18, 2010 2:36 pm Bagheera Hi Rodda Can you draw a couple of scenario diagrams on how to set up these ceiling speakers e.g. 2-3 zones - either from PC or ... whatever device to play music, radio etc etc... Wouldn't mind your recommendations on Amp/speakers brands and technical specs and from your experience what works and what doesn't... keeping in mind that most of us work within budgets... Most of the display homes do have the speakers in the ceilings and it does look so neat and streamlined. It will help us heaps if we know what to look for or to ask for when shopping around... Thanks in advance Daniela Can anyone help with this query....an example diagram will clear a few similar questions...... I was thinking something along the lines maybe of this Proart system http://www.selbyacoustics.com.au/storefrontprofiles/DeluxeSFItemDetail.aspx?sid=1&sfid=74520&c=190970&i=238481523 though not sure that all the functions are really needed... Re: Alfresco Speakers 45Aug 09, 2010 9:45 am Ok, So I think I'm in the same boat. i've got my cinema system rigged up with my AMP in the cinema room, and with 2 wired speakers set in the cieling of my alfresco. What I want is to be able to stream music from a HDD via my airport extreme router (as well as internet radio if possible) to a device (this is where I need you help guys), which will pump it through to the outdoor speakers. Ideally I could change music / radio channels whilst sitting in the alfresco. I had looked at an apple TV which I could then use my Iphone as the remote. But it looks like there'll be an updated ATV i tnhe next 12 months so I want to wait and see what that brings before deciding to buy. The squeeze box looks great, but waaaaay too expensive at over $700. Point Cook, Victoria - Being hounded by the fascists!! Re: Alfresco Speakers 46Aug 10, 2010 10:01 am Does the amp in the Cinema also power the alfresco speakers? If so you need something plugged into the Cinema amp as another source and then the ability to control the amp and the source from outside (IR repeating system with a receiver outside?)... But then you might need visual feedback from the source so you can see what you are selecting. There are a few ways of doing this - and they vary quite a bit in how, but if you want the sort of functionality you seem to be asking for you won't get it for a couple of hundred dollars. eg. There are a couple of Philips Pronto remotes that can directly control media files on a PC (and then the PC would need to be a 'source' connected to the amp that powers the alfresco speakers), but those remotes alone start at a few hundred $$ (I'm planning on getting one and have the PC as one source in my Elan multi-room audio system...). Re: Alfresco Speakers 47Aug 10, 2010 1:22 pm Yes the AMP powers the speakers, I am thinking maybe an old Macbook connected to the amp, then use the Iphone as the remote. However I have to convince the Mrs to let me get a new Macbook Pro as a replacement. I presume I could then use Itunes to brows online radio stations too and listen to them through the spekers too. I will have a look at those remotes too though! Point Cook, Victoria - Being hounded by the fascists!! Hello! I've alfresco pitch of 3 degrees sitting just below the highlight window.
