Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Sep 30, 2009 5:41 pm hi guys, My home teather room is not that big, about 4.3 x 3.9 , what projector should i get ? i want the Full HD Projector and can work together with BOSE® Lifestyle V30 Theatre System, and what cabling do i need ? thanks Re: Projector Advice - Newbie 2Sep 30, 2009 9:56 pm I was gunna make some suggestions, like an Epson TW3000 for the projector, but then I read the word BOSE and stopped there - BOSE tends not to play well with others. You need to get to know your system - what types of audio and video connection options you have (they systems ins and outs) - assuming you have already bought the BOSE system ... Re: Projector Advice - Newbie 3Oct 01, 2009 7:35 am hi Rod, Thanks for your reply, i havent bought the speaker yet, my friend told me is a good speaker, for the epson tw300, what speaker you recommend will go good with it ? i will have Blueray player, apple tv, PS3, Foxtel and a mini PC hook up on the projector. With TW300, does it have sound card built in or something ? im really confused where im gonna plug the speaker to. sorry for the silly question. this is my first home thanks again Re: Projector Advice - Newbie 4Oct 01, 2009 8:57 am Sorry mate, just to confirm (rough night), does that mean you haven't bought any Bose stuff yet? Re: Projector Advice - Newbie 5Oct 01, 2009 9:47 am Recommend you hold off for the eh-tw2900 (the replacement for TW3000), as that's slated for release shortly. The epson projectors do video only, so you'll need your sound to goto your receiver. If you haven't bought anything yet in terms of speakers/receivers etc, get a receiver that has HDMI inputs and you attach your epson projector to the output of the receiver. So e.g. Bluray (via hdmi) -> Receiver (via hdmi) -> Projector Blog : http://ournewhaven.blogspot.com/ (Modified Newhaven - Homestead Homes) Status : DA - Dec 09. Slabbed - Jan 10. No I havent bought anything yet i want to be sure 100 percent they compatible with each other then i buy them in one go. Any thought of the soundsystem that will go well with the projector ? thanks Re: Projector Advice - Newbie 7Oct 01, 2009 4:20 pm Howie Recommend you hold off for the eh-tw2900 (the replacement for TW3000), as that's slated for release shortly. You see, people think Bose is good quality because of it's price, and it's reputation (and the reputation is made by other people who think it's good because of it's price). The reality is that it's a cheap system that delivers average performance at best that is coupled with the best marketing in the business. For reasons I still don't get it still manages to keep it's high reputation, even though once you compare the performance to a quality system of equal value (like described below) it's instantly obvious how far below the mark it is (there are reasons that Bose don't publish the specs of their systems anywhere, at all...). Instead, if you get a good quality package for the same sort of money - a good AV Receiver (Marantz, Denon, Yamaha, etc...) with a good speaker package (way too many good brands to name here without sounding biased, but I will anyway - love Paradigm!) and you will do very well. You will also find that if your AV Receiver is current, especially if it does Video Up-conversion to HDMI then you will be able to use any projector and any other device with that system you like (the room itself will have the biggest effect on your projector decision). Go to a decent HiFi shop, one that doesn't sell Bose (or at least doesn't just sell Bose), and get yourself some quality gear... Re: Projector Advice - Newbie 9Oct 01, 2009 4:41 pm when they say receiver they mean something like this Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ with plugs like this on the back of it Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Basically a receiver acts like a central point for your home audio. so your Home Theatre PC (HTPC) / PS3 / xBox/ Blueray player (if you dont have a ps3) / Etc. plug into the Receiver as inputs. You then plug your projector / speakers as outputs That way everything can run through your receiver without continuously changing plugs. There are other benefits of a receiver also but that's OT. Yep, absolutely you can get a PC onto a projector via HDMI. If it's a fairly decent pc it'll have at least a DVI plug at the back where your monitor normally goes ... and you can get a DVI-to-HDMI adaptor (around $10 at your local computer store). Thanks Rod, i thought so too about BOSE, i know the price about pricey, but if the other speaker and amps can beat it why i have to pay big amount of money . i might go to HIFI store on saturday and look around, i want to spend about 1500-2000 bucks for amps and speaker, do you have suggestion what brand and the type as well ? cheers Re: Projector Advice - Newbie 13Oct 01, 2009 7:00 pm TimmyDunlop when they say receiver they mean something like this Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ with plugs like this on the back of it Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Basically a receiver acts like a central point for your home audio. so your Home Theatre PC (HTPC) / PS3 / xBox/ Blueray player (if you dont have a ps3) / Etc. plug into the Receiver as inputs. Thanks Tim, now i can get picture what receiver look like. i saw it before but i never know im gonna need something like that in the future. the one that you showed me above is pretty decent product, i just saw the review. cheers Re: Projector Advice - Newbie 14Oct 01, 2009 7:05 pm awesome.... i assume that picture is for sound only correct ? then i need put another connection from the devices (ps3, wii , xbox ) into the projector also. the new model of epson that you reffering to me this afternoon, how much that will go for ? any rough idea ? cheers Re: Projector Advice - Newbie 15Oct 01, 2009 7:34 pm hippiesimz :) awesome.... i assume that picture is for sound only correct ? Nah, that's audio and visual if you're connecting your devices via HDMI. HDMI is a truly great invention, it's a video cable and audio cable all-in-one (video via DVI, and audio via digital audio). Quote: then i need put another connection from the devices (ps3, wii , xbox ) into the projector also. Nope, what a good receiver will do is take all your HDMI inputs (say you've got a PS3, Bluray player, and PC) and output it to the projector (one cable from the receiver to the projector). Think of one of those old-school switch boxes. Quote: the new model of epson that you reffering to me this afternoon, how much that will go for ? any rough idea ? cheers TW2900, not available in australia yet, but reports from the UK seem to suggest it will be roughly what the TW3000 released at and probably less. So say under 3k once it hits the local supply chain in good numbers. Tip, when you're shopping around for projectors, try going to a computer store instead of a Hi Fi store. Epson have been supplying projectors to businesses for decades through computer stores, so they're often more competitive on price. http://www.staticice.com.au is a good search engine for IT related products... type in TW3000 in there and you'll be surprised what you can find (e.g. I saw a TW3000+100" fixed screen+logitech harmony universal remote for around $2400 before the sudden epson price rise). Also get your replacement lamps through computer stores too. Blog : http://ournewhaven.blogspot.com/ (Modified Newhaven - Homestead Homes) Status : DA - Dec 09. Slabbed - Jan 10. Re: Projector Advice - Newbie 17Oct 01, 2009 10:43 pm I'm interested in Hippie's price range too, any suggestions guys for amp & speakers for $2-3K??? A thankful person is a happy person. No problems at all Think of the receiver as a switchbox, you switch from AV1/AV2/AV3/etc and it will just output whatever mode you've selected on the projector, and it's all controlled via the receivers remote control. As for receiver suggestions, most of the reputable brands seem good (denon, onkyo, so forth). Sounds one of those subjective things, i've got an Onkyo receiver with Accusound speakers+sub which I picked up second hand for under 2 grand (receipts for 4k).. quite happy with that. Good sound is probably more to do with the installation and environment than the actual components (just so long as you pick decent quality components that you're happy with). HDMI is a pox and a blight on the A/V world. The only good thing about is the concept - combining high definition video and multichannel audio into the one cable - but the implementation is total crap. Not that we can do anything about it now, it's the defacto standard and we're stuck with it. Re: Projector Advice - Newbie 20Oct 02, 2009 10:10 am Just be thankful they aren't employing DRM in HDMI... yet.
